It is instructionally beneficial to know the learning styles of the students because the instructor is then capable of preparing a more informative lesson plan. An effective instructor understands and acknowledges the different learning styles within their class. By incorporating the different learning styles present in the class into a lesson plan, each student will retain information from the class’ session. Then when the instructor’s evaluates the students, each student is capable of recalling the information they retrained from the class session that tailored to their individual learning style.

Tomorrow I plan on having all my students take a learning style assesment. I think it not only will help me to teach in different styles but may be beneficial if I want to divide them up into groups in the future.

By knowing the learning styles of the students this will help you know which learning styles you should focus more on and also times when you should change so students can learn new ones.

Knowing the learning styles of the students will help you be a more efficient instructor because the students will better understand and retain the new information.

Knowing how my students best receive knowledge helps me to be able to "drive" the lesson home. Because I work in a restaurant rotation class, I don't have materials like a whiteboard, we just have to get through service. But if I know how a student best receives information that I can spend some one on one time with that person to make sure they are getting the most out of their experience.

it's also important to have a multitude of presentations that cater to all styles.

good point. Remembering what helps you learn and how you learn will better help you to prepare for other learners of the same type.

Hi Douglas, Thanks for your post to the forum. As long as you make the effort to vary your delivery, you will be reaching the diverse styles.

being able to flip that "switch" for each student is a powerful thing!!

In my quick moving class I don't have much time to identify learning styles. I do my adjustments on the fly without the knowledge of their styles.

Hi Tina, Thanks for your post to the forum. As you mention, students do appreciate that we take the time to give them individual attention by varying our delivery.

Students will not only appreciate an instructor learning the best teaching technique for each student but will benefit grade wise.
