Knowing this is the most effective way to zero in on an individual students need. One hopes that this will lead to the best learning experience for the student.
Hi Linda- Thanks for your post to the forum and for sharing some good examples of diverse deliveries! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
As an instructor, your main objective is to present topics of information in a format that your students can comprehend and consider relevant to the objectives stated in your syllabus.
By knowing the different types of learning styles that exist in your students, you can change your presentation of the topic(s)from that of lecture and powerpoint presentations to possibly a short lecture by the instructor followed by group discussions or work groups to enhance the learning process. At the end of class come back together as a class and have the instructor briefly summarize the topic(s).
Hi Eldis- Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, knowing the learning styles of our students allows us to create learning environments that will nurture our students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
When you take the time to find out the different learning styles in your class you can effectively plan your course. You can apply your lectures/PowerPoint to your auditory/visual learners and then plan activities for your kinesthetic learners. When as instructors we do this type of research on our students we create an environment where each one of them will be able to succeed.

Testing the students their learning style has helped me teach them to succeed in their test taking because it also helps them retain long term memory so they can due better in their test taking.
By knowing the learning styles of your students you can tailor the lecture material to a creative delivery system so that all students will have an opportunity to get a grasp of the material.
Knowing the learning style of your students will enable you to understand and explain the differences you observe among your students and this will help you to develop a variety of teaching strategies. This will enhance the instructors’ ability to prescribe instructional alternatives and the student's chance for significant academic improvement.
There are 8 identifiable learning styles. If the instructor knows a students learning style, and accommodates it, the student has a greater success rate of learning the material.
Hi William- Your learning activities are very appropriate for the learning styles of your students! Best wishes - Susan
Knowing the learning styles of my students helps me to engage them in class and learn the material faster and easier. By designing a learning style specific to each student it increases their participation and grades.
Learning styles determine how a student assimilates acquiring new information and skills. Learning styles influence the level of participation of the student; and, how they attain solutions to problems. Presenting material that reflects the learning styles of student would raise test and quiz scores. This will motivate the student to continue to perform well.
We must know how our students learn the best to plan class activities and delivery of information. I am blessed in that I teach Massage Therapy, so 9 times out of 10 the students are a blend of tactile/visual learners. We have a hands-on activity and power point presentation each day. Having the power point up engages the visual learning, while the auditory learner is engaged by the lecture that the power point is guiding.
Hi Karen - Thanks for your post to the forum. You are doing a great job of varying your delivery. I also liked your idea of only allowing hand written notes during tests. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Julia- Thanks for your post to the forum. Just curious- do you pair up your students according to their learning styles? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
My class requrire the students to apply many hands on skills. My largest goal is to relate to all students. I try to pair like students together and work with pairs and their learning styles.
Knowing their learning styles helps me assess the different methods I should incorporate into my lecture. Even every lecture I try to use Power Points, questions and answer, and hands-on methods.
Knowing learning styles of students helps avoid discouragment that students can feel if they are not "catching on" or feel engaged in the class.
I have physics students for 5 weeks, with two 4 hour sessions per week. I try all four forms of learning experience in the first session, and then tailor my lesson plans acordingly so that everyone has an activity that makes the point of each day's instruction. Often, visual learners go to the whiteboard to explain something to the kinesthetic learners, and both profit. Bob Black
Hi Andrea - Thanks for your great explanation of the importance of teaching to the learning styles!
