Improving feedback in the class

Some times its hard to get feedback from some students but, ask questions and encourage them. Listen carefully to what they are telling you, they want to be heard also. Respond to what the students are saying in a positive fashion by showing the student that their thoughts and voice is of valued in your lab or classroom. When you practice these skills the feedback in the class room should improve.

It's all in the way you present the information. Students can read you just as good as you can them. You need to have that air about yourself and present the information so that the students wants to give you feed back.

Hi Juvenal, Questioning, I have found, is one of the most difficult skills to master. Susan

Questioning is a part of my class that I need to improve. I learned that it is wise to formulate the correct questions in order to get feedback and know how much the class has learned. This is a very important tool that I need to master in order to improve my classes.

Hi Shawnte, Thanks for your post to the forum. This technique ie especially effective if you record the info they are "dumping" quickly on the board. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

You can also allow the students to "brain dump" while waiting on as answer. I often have my students to tell me all of the information that they have recieved and in the process they come up with new questions.

Also make sure that you are answering question thoroughly and demonstrating depth of subject matter comprehension. When the students respect the instructor as an authority on the topic of study, they will feel more inclined to participate. Really knowing your content and material also demonstrates to the students that you are committed, prepared, and professional.
