Discussions at the end of class on what was presented. I give weekly quizzes that lets me know what I need to ensure the students know for the final exam.
I use the same method, daily quizzes, discussion, and in class assignment in the end of the lecture. This method help to evaluate student comprehension and progress through the course
I use discussions with the class and students of the prvious class learning material and final thoughts on the information given.
I like to have a review/question answer time at the start of class to cover the previous days information. Quizzes are also a good way to see how the students are coming along throughout the course.
I love quizzes including pop quizzes. Students also keep their quizzes to study for midterm and final. During quizzes allow student to access their own progress. I believe in feed back as well.
Discuusion at the end of class-question/answer period to be played among groups of students. I sit out only make sure that a valid question is being asked and to check the strength of the answer, last 5 minutes of the acivity I use up to give them my evaluation. Weekly quiz also helps me to evaluate students' progress during the course.
In addition to using chapter quizzes, I'll start the class off with a debate of a particular topic using personal experience and ask that students apply textual concepts to their responses. This occurs before the actual lesson.
I like to include chapter quizzes in addition to classwork and projects because I don't like when pertinent information is overlooked or grazed over due to the formality of lengthy exams.
In addition to a quiz, we have a homework assignment from each chapter covered, and mid-term exams. The students are also occasionally provided a summary of their current standing in terms of total marks obtained up to that point in time, so that they know how much effort they need to put in to get a certain grade.
Hi Melinda, Thanks for your post to the forum. Your review of all assignments is excellent. Unless students get that feedback, they cannot learn from the work that they have submitted. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

HI Darrell, Thanks for your post to the forum. That discussion at the beginning of class is essential. It tells you whether your students grasped what they needed to from the previous lesson, before you proceed with new material. Great work!

I agree, grading all assignments and reviewing them with the students, stimulates class discussion and an understanding of missed questions.
I like to hand out worksheets and then dicuss the answers openly with the class. This gives me the opportunity to evalutate the learning skills of the class.
Format evaluations are important to the students and the instructor. It allows to pin point difficult issues and acknowledges parts of the curriculm that is easier. Formative evaluation tell the student how good they are doing and where they need to work harder.
Question starters are great because they promote learning and critical thinking during classroom discussion time.
I use various techniques to open class, my favorite formative evaluation methods is verbal discussion of the previous day lecture. The student enjoy the repetition.
Thank you Stewart for your sharing. I like the idea of daily quizzes, prompts and feedback to gauge where the students are in their understanding as well as to help reinforce for them that they are on the right path in their learning.
