I do use skill application testing in my class. Each student must perform a hands on task for their lab grade which is a pass or fail test.
As a culinary instructor I love skill application testing. With Knife skills testing in particular. The students know the exact shape, length, size, and amount of product. They are timed and graded on Accuracy, consistency and volume. It is a great way of testing and the vast majority of students actually enjoy it.
Every time we go to lab we use a skills assessment test and best of all the students usually get instant feed back and correction if needed.
yes we do at the school,a skill assestment test will check to see if the skill taught were aquired as the student move thru his training and to see if any refining is necessary.
We give a written test and a skill test at the end of the course to determine if a student has learned the information and can put it into use in diagnosis and working with tools. The skill test is timed and must be completed in a set manner. The grade is a pass or Fail.
Hi Glenn - Welcome to ED 103- Especially in your field, skill apliaction assessment is the bottom line - as you so well put it "they need to be able to walk the talk"! Best wishes - Susan
I do not like yes or on questions but we do have one or two on our tests or true of false I fell that if the student dose not know the answer with yes and on questions they have a 50/50 of getting it right so with yes and no questions just how lucky the student is with just 10 questions can give them a good grade
I too believe that if you can talk the talk........you should be able to walk the talk as well. Prove it to me.........show me what you have learned and how can you apply this skillset into your cooking application. Funny as it seems that some students like to talk smack, but in reality they cannot do this basic task. My theory is whether you know it or you don't.
Yes. In order for a student to be credentialed in a particular area they must individually show the ability to correctly diagnose a specific customer concern on a vehicle. In some cases they must not only diagnose the concern properly but must also show the proper diagnostic steps in proper order. Not only is this a pass/fail for certification but also affects their lab grade.
All the Gentlemen that have responed to the question of skill applicationn is right on . You have to be able to do the work. walk the walk
Yes, we use this type of testing to affirm skill in the useage of service information, diagnostic tecniques, and repair procedures
yes. i agree with bill. the labs we give them lets us evaluate the students hands on training so we can help the one in need to be suscessfull and to better the one that are not in need--fine tune.
Yes. Due to the nature of the training we provide, skill testing must be done. There would be no way to properly evaluate if the student is ready for the field or have any idea of how well he was going to do once there without a comprehensive test of skills.
yes Because you can not walk the walk unless you can talk the talk And skill application show me you can talk the talk ................
I feel that the labs we do are a form of skill assessment testing and those are done every time we go to lab we also use other labs that are not part of the graded curriculum as a form of assessment testing.
Hi Steve - In my courses skill application assessment usually is not appropriate, however for most of our programs in career education skill assessment is necessary as the employers who hire our graduates want to know that they can apply what they have learned.
