Hi Erica- Thanks for your post to the forum. Funny how classes can be so different! Some are just so serious and driven and others laid back and lots of fun. Best wishes! Susan
I am agree using some humor testing and reviewing after a test helps the students to try harder the next time to improve their learnings and obtain better testing grades..
I personally think adding some humor can help relax some students. You need to gauge your students and you will realize if it is appropriate to use humor with them. Some classes, it may not be!
I wondered about that statement, too. I don't use a lot of humor in my tests, but I do remember one of my professors who did. When he asked multiple choice questions there was always one funny option and 3 challenging ones. As a student I liked it. It helped with my test anxiety! As a teacher I recognize that he replaced the "obviously wrong" answer that usually appears on a MC test with a funny one. No harm done!
I think it is a great idea to use humor in a test because it is a way to break the ice with students and have them pay more attention to details of the exam. What type of humor have you used in the past?
Hi Ed- Thanks for your post to the forum. I think that the point is to not use "silly" questions and assign point values. However, if you are creative, occasionally wording a legitimate question in a humorous way is fine. I'll bet you get some interesting responses to your "fill in the blank to make me laugh" request! LOL! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
