Test Formats

I use pretty much every topic that is available for testing. I like the variety and it gives the students more variation in their test taking skills.

Hi Steve- Thanks for your post to the forum. Good question! Yes, this happens often. It really is another aspect of learning styles. Those students are probably kinesthetic learners. When testing through visual/text assessments, they often do not do as well as when they are assessed using skills assessments. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

In our field of study, our students are tested with hands on skill assesments and also with multiple choice written tests as well. What i have found is that even when students don't test well with the written multiple choice tests, they still seem to be able to dynamically test well with the skill assesments. Is this normal?

I prety much give multiple choice works quite well

Hi Marianna -Thanks for your post to the forum. I find that I gear my testing format to what I am assessing. If it's memorization then T/F and multiple choice, short answer. Conceptual knowledge - probably essay. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I like different tests formats as well, it does give the students a bit of a challenge instead if it being overly easy all the time. If the information is taught to understand it should not matter the format.

The instructor needs to determine the best type of testing for the course they are teaching.

Hi Leonardo - Thanks for your post to the forum. I'm glad that you got some useful ideas from this Module. Keep on smiling! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

All of the test we give in our classes are multiple chioce. Hovever, being an instructor in the technical field, the classroom provides the true test and understanding on skills. As I went through this module I was thinking back to a lot of the projects in my course. I have to say that most of them use a different type of tesing style for the broad learner types that come through the school. It was really interesting to put two and two together like that and see the differences. What do you know, I learned something new today *smiles*

I prefer Multiple choice. My field is licensed by the state and there testing format is all multiple choice. This way they are prepared and ready for there state exam. Also testing styles take determine diffrent ways to study, If you know the testing style you know what study perperation works best for you.
