Music

I find that using music in the classroom is a way of increasing participation however the music chosen will alter moods and needs to be carefully selected to meet the needs of the training being delivered.

music in the class room helps in keeping the class room in a postive learnig enviorment.

Hi Edward!

I really like to use music in the classroom expecially when students are first arriving. It seems to provide a calming, relaxing effect for students with very busy lives and schedules. I -like you - do not play music during class but I will play when groups are working.

Good job!

I use music in our lab area, when we are doing the 'hands on" portion. I don't play music in the classroom during lecture or group learning activities.

we are not allowed to use music, is there anything else that helps beta learning?

My students and I thoroughly enjoy music in the classroom. We play it during labs, and occasionally with smaller groups I turn the choices over to the students after I've chosen a genre or message...they have to select a tune that follows it. Positive and G-rated only, which does get a few scoffs but they end up enjoying the challenge.

I do like the suggestion of 60-80 BPM for the speed/tone as I read in this module. Can't you search for songs based on that criteria in iTunes?

I find the use of music in a classroom to be very debatable. Studies have shown that you can pay attention to one thing at a time. Therefore, having music playing in the background while students are studying or doing an activity, could lead to a student not focusing on the task at hand.

I enjoy music in the classroom as well, Angela. It does seem to have a calming effect and can provide motivation.

Keep up the work!

I agree, Music is a good motivator to increase classroom participation because most students relate to music.

I agree. I sometimes let my students choose as a group what they'd like to listen to.

Very well expressed... if I use music in the room i use different types, depending if we are doing hands on .. or lecture.

Hi Robert!

Very well put! Would you please share some of the music that you use and why?

Thanks,

Keep up the good work~!
