IT game suggestions

Can anyone in this forum list some games for Information Technlogy?

I read some interesting comments on this forum and would need more fun games to add to perceived boring IT curriculum.

Jane, that’s a great suggestion to ask the students to contribute ideas! You’ll enjoy the creative and useful ideas they provide. Sometimes it helps to have them do a game-like activity of your own design first, then get their feedback – which is likely to come with additional ideas! We’ve done role-play activities, art work, and games to help make (sometimes boring and dry) IT terms and concepts fun, interesting, and memorable.

BY FAR – our favorite game is ‘cert prep monopoly’. Students have contributed MANY ideas toward changes we’ve made to this game concept over the past several years. At first, I’d made a Monopoly-like board, with specially named ‘street’ blocks that went with our school and the material we were covering. Students rolled the dice and moved their markers around the board, answering topic-specific questions based on the blocks where they landed. You pay for wrong answers, earn money (print and cut your own monopoly money from pdf files you can download) for correct answers. With the progression of the game, we now use a ‘real’ Monopoly board and the questions are pulled from certification preparation practice test software. The game tends to be VERY competitive, and it’s a big laugh when someone spends any time ‘in jail’ (you have to answer three questions in a row correctly to get out of jail). We cover a LOT of information and have a LOT of fun!!!

Great ideas and students really connect with these games.

Good job!

You totally took my idea. Jeopardy is a great game for this. You can also do Family feud and have quations. Go online for templates.

I heard jeopardy is a good interactive game. All the students get involved and a chance to score points. I think this may be particularly well received when doing review of the material covered in Lecture.

Hi Sonny!

Jeopardy is always a good game and students really like the competition. You can purchase book with different types of games as well. They typically aren't too expensive.

Have you asked your students for any recommendations? Since it is an IT class, I bet your students could come up with very clever games for using their IT skills.

Good luck and keep up the good work!
