I really like the idea of the backward chain or backward chaining. I am going to try to develop lesson plans that begin with, "why do I need to learn this or know this?"
In one of my classes I had the students break down into groups and each group had to create a board game that was playable in class. The students really enjoyed the assignment and stated that they learned a lot from it.
Rosana,
flash cards really are a great way to help with memory & retention of key information.

I use flash cards as a good way to help with memorization of certain facts, ideas and visual ID of materials we are covering.
I like this inititative to keep things exciting and setting up a goal for students to see and want to aspire to.
Jessica,
the repetition is really a key to learning & retaining the information.

I would like to incorporate more repetition for students to learn in class. I want to share objectives, have students model, repeat, and share their thoughts on the material. Students find repetition annoying, but it is necessary to moe material to their long-term memory.
Clare,
definitely true & when we can associate movements with learning it becomes even more powerful.

I think by changing up the activities in class, from for example, discussion (auditory) to project (kinesthetic), this is great use of primacy to increase retention of learning material. I had a teacher in high school who would make us all stand up and stretch (especially in the warm months towards the end of the day). This helped us get the blood flowing to our brains again. Primacy is a good way to keep everyone alert and on topic.
Arturo ,
this is a great strategy as it helps the students to be able to see & feel the components & hear the lecture.
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
When I lecture i have some of the componants we will be discussing on hand so when the time comes I pass out the different componants so they can see and hopefully understand what they are and do.
Variety of learning and retention methods will assist with all the types of helping the students learn what is need in the class
Chloe,
this is a great idea as it helps hit on the various learning styles & ensures greater success for all of the students in the class.
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
I like the idea of touching on the different ways that learners remember information. One example could be starting every class reviewing material from the previous class using a different strategy. I.e. one class could start with a handout that separates chunks of info and also provides a visual, while another class could start with a video about a learned topic that draws on a specific emotion to help students better remember that topic.
Jeffrey,
this is a great idea as it engages the class & helps with the retention/recall.

Peter,
this is one of the best formulas to ensure retention of material & methods.

Repetion, repetion and repetion of cooking exercises along with follow up, follow up and follow up.
ANDREA,
this is an excellent idea & I think you'll find it is very helpful for students to do this.

grouping facts in small groupings is a wonderful idea. I already try to incorporate mneumonics for memorizing lists.
