Memory Retention
I find that allowing the students to prepare a 3x5 card with notes for a test works well. By studying enough to prepare the 3x5 card, they usually end up not needing them because they have retained the information.

flash cards are a great source for memory retention, even tie them to mneumonics, the students really get a kick out of learning that skill.

Once they have made the 3x5 cards, I like to have them pair with up a partner for a couple minutes and quiz each other using the cards as their answer key.

In reviewing material, index cards are very useful. I allow students to use these in team activity settings and find that they reinforce course material.
Index cards are a great learning aid.
By making them, the student repeats in writing what was taught, and the cards are reviewed many times before the test. Information is retained.

This is a good way of studying. Another good way is also letting students study with a partner which helps them feed off each other.

students at our school are required to submit questions and answers on index cards for each learning module. It's a good way to study.
I agree. I teach Pharmacy Technician and the students need to be well aware of the top 200 drugs. The students need to know the geberic, brand, classification and the indication for use for all these drugs. I reccommend the students write them all down on memory cards and "flip" through them everyday. By the time they have are done with the programd they know them all.
