locating yourself in the classroom

I'm a fairly new instructor and I have found out that when I do move from behind the desk, which is my comfort zone I do feel as though I'm relating with my students better and my word flow is better. So I do believe that instructors should move around not pace but at least move twice during a lecture.

it seems to be a great way to interact with your students when their answering questions and make them feel more involved with you as well

Hi Laurie!

I like it! I, too, move around in the classroom.

I have learner/instructional activities in each corner of the classroom. I move to that corner as I prepare to share that information for the day. Students stay very engaged as they don't know what to expect next.

Keep up the good work!

I have been teaching since 1986 and I have never used a desk. I have had Veteran teachers walk by classroom when I was teaching at the high school level and wanted to know how come my students were so engaged all of the time. I always asked them if they sat at their desk as they lectured. You know what the answer was . . . . .
