Teamwork
Team Work provides organizational basis for satisfying the common interest between the business and individual needs and aspirations.
For the organization: Teamwork
Builds on group strengths.
Increase available pool of skills and knowledge and aids development.
Give sound framework for positive attitudes and performance measures.
Creates conditions for new ideas to flourish.
Provides framework for an organization to grow and develop.
For the individual:
Satisfies social instincts
Increase opportunities for skill acquisition, job enrichment and aids career advancement.
It allows information sharing to operate for self improvement in a supportive environment.
I have my students work in groups and in teams it helps them to get ready for the work force and learning how to reley on a co-worker it's team work that gets the job done there is no I in TEAM.
Group work can bring out the strengths in individuals but it can also reinforce the weaknesses. If a person is less agressive and doesn't usually speak out in class, they may be as timid in group work. If they are allowed to proceed in a timid manner, their weakness has been reinforced, and it is going to be more difficult for them in the future to improve on their participation. Small groups give these people an opportunity, but if the opportunity is not taken, the problem becomes bigger. An instructor must monitor these less active students to be certain that they do participate.
True. an instructor does have to find more creative ways to promote students who are less likely to participate in a group. I usually develop a stronger relationship with those timid students and encourage them abut their work and ideas so that they feel more confident at the next meeting to speak up and participate.
But the instructor must monitor the activity of a group so that some, more timid, students don't get pushed aside and are not allowed to participate fully...
Teamwork is also essential in the fashion industry. Especially with designers as there is commonly a team that designs a collection. In my class, most students want to work alone and design their own creation, but I encourage teamwork. Usually, by the end of the term, they are happy that I made them work as a team because they each gained something from the experience
Teamwork is essential in the healthcare field. Being a teamplayer is a big part of participation in my class.
Jasmin,
You have provided a good summary of some of the advantages of Teamwork.
I believe that in effective teams, that the whole team is a stronger entity than the mere sum of its parts.
As instructors, I feel we are facilitators of teamwork. In order to keep teams effective over the long term, we need to be mindful of some of the potential dysfunctions that can occur with teams.
In my experience with teams, dysfunction can arise from a lack of trust. Whether real or simply perceived -- if team members believe that one or more members of the group are serving self interests vs. those of the team, chaos can ensue and the "team" will merely be a collection of individuals.

Christopher
Frederic, while you make some excellent points, I really liked your thoughts regarding guiding but not pushing. This is vital because the purpose of a cooperative learning group is for students to be active participants in the learning process. If the teacher is leading the group discussions, it defeats the purpose of using such groups altogether.
Nice Points!
Laura :-)
I think that is fantastic that you critique lightly without biases, I find this useful in my classes as well. I also leave a little room for healthy debate when biases to enter into the conversation or group work. I think there is a safe and healthy way to let these "disagreements" happen.
I challenge students to form and work in teams/groups in my class.
I guide but not push the process. I comment/critique the results and try to not make personal references publically.
TEAMWORK IS A MUST FOR OUR TRAINING HERE. WE ESTABLISH A ROTATION WHERE AS EVERY STUDENT HAS THE OPPERTUNITY TO BE SUPERVISOR FOR THE DAY,AND HE/SHE HAS TO ASSIGHN DUTIES FOR THE DAY.THERE IS NO I IN TEAM,AND THEY HAVE TO BE TEAM PLAYERS. WHEN YOU GET THEN WORKING TOGATHER,IT IS FUN TO SIT BACK AND WATCH.
