Agreed. For one of my courses that involves a group project, part of the grade is based on their peers feedback. I have specific categories in which they are graded: contribution, openness to others' ideas/opinions, timeliness, reliability, etc. This is preparation for the work force & they need to be ready.

There are many challenges in having students work in groups. There are freeloaders, or students who do nothing and take the glory. There are students who want to control everyone and everything in the project. There are complainers/worried that someone else is going to get a better grade then they are. There are no shows. Lots of preplanning needs to happen before a group project.

One challange I find is the social loafer. He or she can be discouraging escpecially if the group is getting the same grade. The best that I have come up with is a provision that students can help grade their peers and a statement that not all the group member may get the same grade. If anyone can offer another route, let me know.
