very different
I have only a small class and need some ideas on how to keep the faster paced ones from getting board while I spend a little more time with the ones who need help.
Carrie,
this is a great idea as it does keep those faster paced students active & sometimes it helps our students to hear from someone different than us, especially a peer. The peers sometimes explain things in a more understandable way.

How about having the faster paced students prepare and teach a topic to the class, so that they feel they are challenged and engaged, while the others are learning from them?
That can be challenging. The topic will determine what you can do. Can the faster learners pick up a couple of extra assignments?
You could challenge the faster-paced students with additional more challenging work/projects that require a much higher order of knowledge to complete. Not knowing the specifics of what you teach I can't give a relevant example, other than encouraging them to perhaps come up with alternative, creative solutions.
