Life expericences
This is a great way for students to get to know the instructor and the students around them. The more my students and myself share about our experiences the more the students seem to learn.
On day 1 we discuss life experiences, you just have to make sure that those with more experiences don't monopolize the time.

While, we will have students from different backgrounds, I always begin the start of each term asking everyone myself included to share four things; 1. What is their idea of the end result. 2. Why are they here? 3. What is their biggest fear? 4. What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to them. By doing this it can help the student's realize that they all have a past and fears however, they all have one common goal being greater than yesterday!
