Dyslexia
With out a doubt this course helped me to understand what this disability is about and the challenges that the students face. Also how I can go about trying to help students to succeed. I appreciate this course. Good course.
Yes, extra trim is definitely important, but it is definitely difficult to give the extra trim to every student that I encounter. I think I might have to trim the trim allocated to some students, and try and give it to others. The problem I have is I only have a finite amount of trim in my day.
When a student is overwhelmed or under pressure, his/her dyslexia becomes worse. Extra trim and an understanding instructor are a big help.
Greetings James!
I find that challenged students are often more committed to learning than the average student. They understand what they have to do - in many cases -to learn the simplest concepts.
Great that you support their endeavors.
Keep up the good work!

I agree. I know people who are dyslexic and can not empathize with them because I had no idea what they had to go through to learn. I remind the students, though, that it is their responsibility to ultimately seek the help they need to succeed. I can point out that they may need assistance but it is up to them to put in the effort to reach their goals.
Students with dyslexia are generally very intelligent individuals who process information in a different manner. I have a student who is very smart, but is dyslexic. Learning takes more time to grasp successfully for the student, but once the material is grasped the student really knows the information and how to use the knowledge learned.
I agree. This course has helped me so much with the way I approach the needs of the students. It also showed me some other ways to help the students succeed. Thank you!
I found the info regarding IEP very interesting!
Thanks for your comments about the course, Isiah! I am pleased that it has been of value to you.
Dyslexia creates a variety of learning challenges; it affects not only visual modes of learning, but influences the other learning styles as well - it is particularly frustrating to students who are excellent readers and thinkers, and who know what they want to say or write or compute, but it just doesn't connect sometimes to the verbal or written output...it is, of course, more than reversing numbers or letters and requires a real awareness on the part of instructors to choose teaching methods that allow flexibility for this type of educated learner
