Relative relevance

If you do use youtube and wikipedia sources as examples, it's important to show students that this material may not be the most accurate on that topic.

In the courses I teach we are bound to Codes and Standards, as such Wikipedia isn't something I use. However Youtube does have its uses as many videos of individuals upload their work, which gives me the ability to show relevant examples of industry settings, while critiquing and showing how the theory from class results in real world application.

In these days of instant information retrieval, cross referencing information and sources is of critical importance as is challenging the students to explore information deeper.

I concur with Jonathan for two reasons. Using more than one source of information can confirm the accuracy of the information, but using more than one source of information can also expose the researcher to differing opinions about the same topic. Different versions of the same topic should force the researcher to think and do additional research to form his view of the information.

Using multiple sources as part of the process shows the students that you cannot rely on just one source of informationand you shuld always check the accuracy of the information obtained

Paul,
Good point because the accuracy of this information as we know can be all over the board. The challenge for the students should be for them to be able to sort through it and know when they have acquired the most accurate information.
