Seth,
Graphic organizers are another valuable tool to help students visualize and organize their learning steps. They support what the students are working through in a way that is clear and easily understandable.

Graphic organizers can help students put important information into a spatial context as well as help them visualize a relationship between related ideas and concepts. An instructor to put in a visual perspective a thought process or method of completion, which can be used to assist the students in remembering or comprehending ideas that are complex or very difficult to articulate, can use graphic organizers.

David,
The more senses that can be used in learning the higher the cognitive retention is going to be. By adding examples for relevance and application and you will have students that leave class appreciating the what has been shared. Keep up the good work.

Piaget outlined equilibration in developing new schema and creating a graphic organizer can be used as an assessment AND a teaching tool

Anjali,
Segmented instruction is critical for learning. The students need to see the steps and learn how each step or segment of content contributes to the completion of the whole. This way they don't become overwhelmed with trying to take in everything at once to the point they become frustrated.

Graphic Organizers can help them to get a visual of where they are going/what they should be trying to learn. Graphics is what has made the PC so popular today. Basically, it makes things easier to grasp and understand.

In my classic cakes class I have highlighted different components of a cake that seems extensive and difficult to prepare.
Not only does it help students see the different components of the cake and remember them but also keeps them from getting overwhelmed as it gets broken down in to smaller, more easier to accomplish tasks that they have already prepared in basic baking class.

It has helped my students to identify the pertinent information allowing them to "delete" the erroneous giving them an advantage of focused study for assesments.

It provides a visual for the students to see and help them remember the order, sequence, and patterns of material. I use the "mapping/cluster" technique for writing essays and have also used it in A&P. I do check it at the beginning of the term to insure that students are including enough material.

Lisa,
They really help to keep the students organized and focused in relation to the sequence of the course.

Patricia,
They really do because they can see the whole and how the parts contribute to the whole in terms of application and understanding.

Paul,
Yes, it is. It is often overlooked by instructors in relation to the value it has in graphically illustrating a concept.

I will begin using them in my class. They seem to put all the content of a subject in one place, and to connect the areas of learning together very nicely.

Seems like a visual learner would benefit from this tool.

one of the esiest graphic organizers is the white board. on it you can: review the previous days lesson, poast notes for that days lesson, and have a summary of the next lesson, all in the same place.

Gaylene,
I use them a lot myself and have the same praise for them. They really help to keep students focused.

Graphic organizers are a fantastic tool! Graphic organizers help the student to decode, recode, and apply all of the parts.

Beverly ,
See you were already doing something great for your students and didn't even know it, yet it was successful. Keep up the good work.

In one of my courses, I use an outline form to visually explain to the students the logical progression of the information that we are covering in the course. Each week I add to the outline the new information to be presented. (I didn't realize it was a "graphic organizer"!)

Robert,
Good strategy. These graphic organizers help them to see both the segments as well as the completed product. By being able to segment their steps the students will enhance their chances of being successful at the end.
