I have set up a "broadcast" email system utilized for all enrolled students in our disciplne to inform them of changes in the field, potential job opporltunities, legislation, etc. It is 'special'..just for them - to keep the student updated, current, and let them know they are important. They are also aware of our discipline blog...but the email is designed to go to them -- with only their name on the email.

What a great idea for making yourself available to students. By having the special email account you don't have your personal live invaded but you are still there for your students.

I have a personal e-mail that I have set up just for my students; they are made aware that I look at it every day even on off days and I respond to them.
thank you and yes, students do respond - and in fact contact me to make sure they have not 'missed' any emails, if it appears there is a 'void' between time of messages.

This is a great idea. What a wonderful way to keep the students engaged in the process of being updated about happenings in their field. Plus, it makes them seem special since the email is addressed to them.
