Good way to customize your instruction to meet the learning needs of your students. By targeting their learning styles you are enabling them to acquire the needed content and skills leading to success and you have done it through their preferred learning preference.

Good way of establishing a base line of knowledge on your students. By knowing this as you say you can direct your instruction to their needs. I do this with my students and it really helps me to target my instruction and saves much frustration on both the students and my part because we are in concert with each other.

I find the same to be true. Each quarter I try a few activities including having the students determine their learning style to determine what their learning characteristics are so I can better gear the rest of the quarter to different characteristics.
it helps you in decieding what methods you will need to deliver your lesson in.
The learner characteristics help me to direct my class in the path they will best understand the subject. I realized this when the same subject class I taught in separate semesters exposed the differences between these two classes. I have now assigned a short paper at the begining of each semester to find out how best they learn and then try to include those methods in each class.

I never would've thought that each class would be different but it is. Understanding the 18 to 20 year old vs. the adult learner is so important. This last module helps me understand that I need to be more aware of each student and their needs. I had one student in one class (adult) that was upset that he had to take the class. He failed the test to opt out of it. I can see now with his age why he reacted the way that he did. As always that 1st day of class is so important. Trying to ease the fears that 1st day is so important.
Understanding learner characteristics plays a very important role in the relationship between the instructor and the learner which helps in a different way to send the message to the learner and strengthen the bond between them, also it is very important to know the learner in a way to modify your teaching skills from one person to another.
It is important to understand the learning characteristics of each student. Students learn differently. Using many different teaching methods is helpful in making sure all students have an opportunity to learn. I teach courses in laboratory medicine and medical assisting. In addition to learning a concept, most assignments include a hands on demo by the instructor and then the student has an opportunity to perform the skill.

by reaching each one's mind it facilitates a lot during the teaching process thus it lets you know what is the ability of eachone to get a new knowledge and helps you to know who needs more help and who doesn't.

understanding the learner characteristics helps us to know their concepts, cultural back ground which facilitate preparing different lessons and topics in an easy way with the suitable symbols, examples and life characters and models which put the instructor in an acceptable and interesting figure to the students.

Understanding Learner characteristics help the instructor to customize the lesson plan and the material. It gives the instructor an opportunity to work with students on an individual basis. Some students may be good at expressing things while some are good at presentation. so understanding their likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses helps the instructor to evaluate tthe students and can approach with definite teaching strategies.
Understanding the Learner characteristics gives me an idea of the student's psychology and their behavior. If I have a strong knowledge of ther behavior , then it will be easy for me to modify my course content and curicullum to reflect the appropriate planning startegies to acieve my goals in motivating my students to learn the subject.
I use students with more experience to help students with less for lab tasks. I also use different techniques in the classroom to cover all learning styles.
I think understanding learner characteristics of students is very akin to knowing your product and marketing, in a sense. In order for instructors to effectively deliver material, they need to know their audience. By knowing the learning styles of my students, I have a better idea of what methods will help them be successful and what methods are better kept at bay.
