motivating 18-20 age range in prioritizing studing

My greatest challange has been reaching the mind-heart of the 18-20. They seem to lack the time manangement/study skills required to maintain desired scores. Furthermore, the ability to maintain the balance of school and work life seems to be a challange for all age groups. I find that continuous "cheerleading" seems to be most effective.

Kitt,

I see the same thing in my younger students as well. They are very worried what their peers think of them. I'm encouraging but I don't want to cheerlead too much cause out in the "real" world that doesn't happen so I don't want them to depend on that.

Kitt,
Good advice for us instructors. Many of us encounter the same attitudes and study skill sets as you with this student sector. They are still trying to become adults and see the value of what they are studying. Many lack the basic skills needed for college success as well. So by being supportive and encouraging we can impact their willingness to put forth the effort needed to be successful.
