Learning Styles
As an instructor, it is important to rememeber that all students learn differently. It is important to learn to conform and change accordingly. Every student learns differently.
Deidre,
I agree with your comments in relation to instructional planning. I teach two sections of the same course back to back and yet the students in each class are very different. As a result to meet the unique learning needs in each class I deliver the same content but in different ways that engage the learners of each particular class. This approach also helps me to stay excited about what I am teaching because each section is so different.

Although you are given a curriculum to following, awareness of the different learning styles is vital to student success. As an instructor, this awareness helps you broaden your teaching styles according to your students' needs. What works for one class may not work for a different class. Instructors must be willing to adapt their lessons and teaching styles to make the classroom a positive place to learn.
Everyone learns differently, so identifying if your student(s) are people who needs reading comprehension, visual aids or a hands-on approach is important.
An instructor may attempt to incorporate all three(3) learning styles into the lecture or into class particpation.
Deanna,
Good blend of instructional strategies. I know you are going to be able to capture the attention of your students with these methods.

I ask my students how they learn best. I try to incorporate different teaching methods that can allow me to reach as many different learning styles as possible in hopes that I can reach all learners at some point. I use handouts, powerpoint, lecture, audiovisuals, group discussion, group projects, scenario, etc.
Timothy,
Good balance and blending of different deliveries. You are right about being able to touch on the different learning styles with this approach.

For the different learning styles, I try to cover everything through discussion, pictures, hands on and all three together at times.
Kelley,
Good point to remember as each of us do our instructional planning.
