Adult Learners

I taught high school for 6 years. I definitely experienced a learning curve teaching my first term with older adult learners. Their experiences are definitely an asset to the class in my experience. However both older adult learners and students fresh out of high school have made me realize how important my own experiences are in the classroom. It emphasizes the instructor's role as an authority figure.

I agree, overall I prefer to work with adult leaners due to there eagerness to have a career. Younger adults have shorter attention span. Experiences with both sets of adults helps you to juggle the whole .

I agree the adult learners in a class are very helpful as far as they have a different life experience factor which helps with the younger students and their behavior and goal setting.

Amy,
Good point and I appreciate you making it. Adult learners bring so many different life experiences into the classroom and as a result they can be valuable resources to consult with. Others are just starting their adult journey so they are bringing different experiences that need to be channeled in a way that will help them be successful.
