The advantageous mix of traditional and adult learners

I try to take advantage of the differences between these 2 different groups. the older students can share real-life career experiences while the younger learners add a contemporary twist. It can help both in learning.

Scott,
This is a great service to and for your students as you are helping them to develop their communication and interaction skills by working with other individuals as they answer tech calls. This is good experience for them to have as they will soon have to be able to work with others in many different settings. As we know if a person cannot get along with co-workers then their careers may be in jeopardy.

We do a lot of in house tech support. When I send students out in pairs to repair something I try and send different parties out until all have worked with each other. I find that after one go around, the students find their level and it usually becomes two very diverse biengs who become fast friends.

LaShondra,
A good mix like you propose helps the students to get to know others which in turn will help them when they are in the workplace working with others. A successful career is built on the ability to provide services, communicate and cooperate with others to resolve issues and solve problems.

I agree. When making my sitting chart I make sure to mix the different ages among each other. I have notice that they keep each other encouraged, and motivated.

I agree!! having them paired up in group work is also helpful.

Jeremiah,
I think you and your students will like the results you get through this type of grouping.

This is something that I try as well, though I just use random group assignments. Usually there is enough of a mixture to ensure good results.

Pandora,
This is a good learning opportunity for everyone. Each generation of learners have something to offer and helping the other group to learn and appreciate that is a major step forward in the learning process.
