Student Feedback

I'm constantly asking students to let me know how they think the course is going. I ask them what they like, don't like; I ask them to suggest new ways of doing things. My feeling is this helps them to take some ownership in the class and helping to make it better. I usually get great feedback and great ideas from students.

When you give a lecture with a lot of information you must ask yourself if all students understood it completely. In my case I can take the class to lab and use a hands on approach to help the students that learn easier in a lab environment.

I have also done this. I have handed out paper and told them to tell me what they like and disliked about the course. I also stress that I do not want names on the sheet as I want them to tell me how they really feel. Sometimes I am suprised at the feedback, both good and bad.

I am always asking my students, "does this make sense"; an I going too fast; I want to get the immediate feedback knowing they are getting the information.

Yes, I ask my students what they learned from the presentation; and what they are going to do with the new information taught. I like my students to walk away with value and knowledge.

I like my students to be active learners. I like them to know that they are being apart of the learning process and their participation really does count.

Thanks!

I ask my students what they got from my presentations. This helps me assess the teaching style and the materials used.

Hi Kym,
You are right with your approach to get student "buy in". This is very important for them to stay invested during the entire course.
