FOCUS
I found that a good way to refocus my attention toward a class is to ask questions to random students throughout the lecture and let the students ponder an explaination as you continue teaching. when a student comes up with the answer have them stand up and give there explaination. Also it keeps the class involvement and attention on a specific goal. Is this the right thing to do or is it causing embarassment to the students.
I think that this is a great thing, as it is not to put any student on the spot or cause embarassment. The student will either have the correct answer or not, if not then the instuructor can use this as a form to get other student actively involved. if the answer is correct, then maybe ask the student to help explain where or how they came up with the anwser.
I think asking questions to students that are less likely to participate helps them assimilate into the class. This is especially true if you know the student knows the answer.
