I use it as a learning tool for myself and maybe this is something that I can use to improve.
Regina,
Good for you. Student feedback is a valuable part of instructional improvement. By listening to our students we can make adjustments in our instructional delivery which increases the learning opportunities for future students in our courses.

I remind all of my students to fill out the student surveys every mod. I inform them that their identities are kept confidential but it allows us to assess the class by evaluating feedback. I have been able to look at the feedback that I have received to change how I present some of my information. I never take it personally; I use it to assist me when I am reevaluating my teaching skills.
Deshannon,
You make a good point about stopping and really focusing on how what the students are saying both verbally and non-verbally. This can be valuable feedback on how you need to adjust your instructional delivery.

Both verbal and non-verbal feedback is very important in helping the instructor focus on the student(s). In most situations, if a student is not giving some kind of feedback he/she does not understand or is not interested. Feedback usually ensures that the students has some understanding of the topic being discussed but if not the instructor should ask that particular student if they need further assistance.
I reevaluate the material and the student work and accept their feedback right away. I get their assessments back by the very next class.
Student feedback can help tremendously to keep your focus because if it is negative feedback you can create a new way to get your material across to your students. If it is positive feedback that gives you confidence in what you are doing is working.
I always ask my students for feedback about my lessons. This helps me to understand what they liked and did not like. It also lets me know which methods were effective at reaching the students. This helps me to "Tweak" lessons for future use.
student feedback - especially narrative feedback - helps me to see specific areas where I've connected (or failed to connect) with students in my classes...I then use this feedback to adjust my plan before i teach the class again...I like the idea of doing a midterm "snapshot" to see how we're doing, and plan to incorporate that into my classes!
This way you'll know whether you are moving in the right direction or the wrong one and help improve the instruction and material
Laura,
Empowerment is a word that is used often but in many situations not readily applied. Students need to understand what empowerment is and how it can be used to help them achieve the goals they have set for themselves.

Student feedback gives you the opportunity to assess your students level of knowledge assimilation and motivation to continue learning going forward. It helps both you as the instructor and the student avoid falling into "slumps" during the learning process.
Feedback provides the instructor with insight to where the class is going and if it is time to refocus and employ other teaching techniques that will impact the student's emotional factor. Feedback is critical to keeping students motivated and apprised of their progress while taking the course. Empowering students reinforces their confidence in their abilities to continue the learning process and accomplish the required competencies they will need for their careers.
Student feedback is really important because each student is different , the same material sometimes is necessary a change in case they don't like the way of instructional delivery that I selected.
Student feedback is extremely important. It reveals what students like the most or the least about the course. It helps me create a better learning environment.
Hi Bonnie, that's why that "Exit slip" idea can be so powerful. When a whole class tells us that they are confused or we hope inspired by a particular topic, we can know how to begin our class the next day.

Dr. Carlton,
I agree. I solicit feedback from my students informally through 3 by 5 cards I give out and have them comment on the value they got from an assignment, reading or activity. This way I can continue to improve my delivery and enhance their learning. A win win for everyone.

It is exciting to know if you did well but can be a downer when you get low remarks. All in all you know where you stand in the sum of things as far as your teaching. This is a great way to learn through your student. Believe it or not you are being observed on everything you do.
The needs of students can be vast and varied. I enjoy receiving all types of feedback. It helps to assess the pulse of the class and ways to improve future sections. I often ask for feedback at the end of the first exam and at the end of the section. Learning from your students is a vital component of teaching.
Student feedback creates a positive flow for me and it incourages me to elaborate the topic at hand.
From day one of my program I emphasize student feedback during class. Getting feedback from students during a lecture a lot of times takes the lecture in different directions, getting away from just using the same old method such as PowerPoints. I have noticed that students will then feed off each other and answer each others questions. I then can kind of sit back and see what they are getting and help them think a little more by guiding them on things they are not. By the time we are done we have covered everything that was planned and class if over.
