I find that if you can have a little fun in class, this helps every one relax it dose not have to be all pain all the time.
KIZHAKKEPARAMPIL,
Thank you for sharing the results of this survey with us. I agree because I have found that these are the teachers I like to have as well as try to be. We need to keep these three in our mind as we plan and approach our classroom.

Classrooms are flexible, comfortable and designed to meet individualized learning styles. Students experience stress, which is the body's reaction to experiences throughout the day. Make them relaxed with some fun activities and keep the sense of humor. The poll, administered in spring and summer 2012,by kids health.org found these are the top 3 qualities that make a good teacher:
1. The teacher explains things well and makes the subject interesting. (33%)
2. The teacher is funny and has a lot of personality. (25%)
3. The teacher is interested in what students have to say. (9%)
Hi Glenn,
Everyone wants to feel welcomed into a setting where they are going to learn and make progress toward their career goals. By helping them to enjoy the process you will have a much higher retention with your students.

Letting your students or student have a little fun in their own way helps to focus them back on their instuction as long as it is with in the frame work of the class rules and is time limited.
Ihave found that having fun not only keeps the student intrestred but also motaviated.I have students play review basketball every phase and they enjoy it.
It really is essential that students have fun, or the way I like to phrase it is "enjoy themselves". I also agree that they must enjoy themselves within the class/lab's culture for behavior and work standards. When these two things are present in my learning environment, the quality of the students work is usually elevated and their course grades higher.
Hi Darryl,
Making class enjoyable for students should always be the goal of instructors. This will help to encourage students to want to come back the next day. Learning should be an enjoyable and growth experience for students so they will want to complete their work and get out into their choses career fields.

I think the most important thing is for the instructor to have fun in class. Coming to class with a good attitude and a smile on your face will reflect on your students. This will create a good environment for the remaining of the class
I agree that the classroom setting should be fun.
I see some instructors taking the fun out of learning by being to strict and rigid.
I believe that you learn by doing, by making mistakes and improving your ability to successfully complete the task as you do it over and over again.
I've never been a big fan of taking points away from students for mistakes that are made. i prefer to make them practices instead and hold off on assessement value until the task is completed successfully by the student.
It takes the pressure off the student and sometimes too much pressure can cause a student to make mistakes that he wouldn't normally make.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for sharing this teaching technique. Things like this that teachers can share are greatly appreciated. We are always looking for additional strategies to use in our classrooms and labs.
Gary
I have found that fun is one of the best motivators for my students. I try to take a part of each lecture and turn it into a practical game of diagnosis. I write down the cause of a problem with the vehicle. Give the students the customer's complaints and allow them to guess the cause using the diagnostic steps we learned in previous lectures.
I agree.
Having some fun in the classroom can help keep the students interested in learning.
I feel that we must have fun in everything that we do. Once anything becomes "un-fun" it is laborious and typically not looked forward to the next time.
The key to having fun in class is to keep class control there is a difference between fun and respect you have to keep your role as a instructor and not a babysitter
I belive that a little fun and humor is neccessary in class as well in our personel lives. It reliefs stress and helps to build a bond between students. This time must be contolled and not inapproiate.
If I have fun as an instructor while teaching, the students seem to pick up on it and also have fun. It creates a great atmosphere for learning and also helps with motivation.
Field Trips really work for my class. I take them to a recording studio, television studio, the GRAMMY office, a mastering lab...
it's a whirlwind tour that's a lot of fun and it takes them into real
world spaces.
Dave hit the nail on the head. If students cant have fun and enjoy the class they will loose interest.
