FUN

Instucting and learning should be a fun exprience to both the instructor and the student. If it is not fun to go to work or come to school than the end result will be less than what was hoped for by all.

true, I try employ alittle bit of fun each day, but not too much.

A students attention span is about 7 to 10 Min. then you start to loose them so i tel them a story that brings them back so they can start learning again.

Hi Adel,
Good point. Teaching needs to be something we all are excited about or we need to get into a field that does excite us. Our students are depending us to bring instruction to them in an interesting and understandable manner.
Gary

Exactly. If you can't get excited about the material as the instructor, how are the students supposed to believe that one day the subject they are learning won't be boring and repetitive?

Hi Catherine,
I like the use of stories as well it helps to show the students what their career field is going to be like. Plus, it never hurts to share a laugh with the students and I can assure you they will remember the stories you share and recall them when something like that happens to them out in the field.
Gary

Education is very important in every individuals life. How you get the education is even more important. Learning has to be fun for the instructor and the student. No one gets excited about being in a boring environment. Communication from the students can help the instructor make learning more fun and enjoyable.

I like to tell my students about interesting and funny things that happened to me during my career in the field in which I teach. This not only throws a little humor -- most of the time -- into the mix, but it can be an instructional tool as well: Don't-do-what-I-did kind of a thing. And as I'm telling the story, I sometimes have a difficult time believing it myself! Though I never make things up to keep it more interesting. :)

If your Excited about what your teaching & really interested in the stundents sucess you will have fun & stundents will have fun & feel good

Hi Dennis,
It really spreads throughout the class when they all can sense excitement about a topic or demonstration. They can see learning as being real with application to their lives.
Gary

Iagree that passion for the job is a very important key to the overall sucess of the class. If you have passion for the topic you are teaching, that excitement can be very contagious to the students in the class room.

Hi Vincent,
This is a great way to start a new class off. Your students are seeing an instructor that is excited about his work and the opportunity he has to share his knowledge and experience about the field.
Gary

I remind my students of this the first day of class. I have fun and want to go to work everyday! It is extremely contagious and the students have responded by wnting to be in my class.

Very true! Your students can easily get off track and you have to bring them back. I found that if you plan early enough you can always find some interesting fun facts about different subjects.

Learning should be a positive experience. Being positive does now always mean playing games and being joyous. There are some topics that require a good knowledge level and obtaining that level is not always filled with fun time. Students need to understand that positive experiences need to be defined as being able to accomplish a defined task. There is real job in being able to accomplish a task. Quite often it requires the instructor to exhibit that joy. Learning really can be fun.

Hi Joseph,
Well said. There is nothing wrong with bringing passion into the classroom. It will spread and be motivating.
Gary

If the class isn't fun and your passion isn't their for it than why are you there? It should be fun. If it's just work then your in the wrong place.

Hi Joseph,
Right you are. It is ok for instructors to enjoy what they are doing and to have a laugh or two. Sometimes I feel that some instructors forget this part of teaching.
Gary

Hi James,
I can only imagine some of the "custom" body work you get to see. I like your approach because no matter what it looks like it is "custom" to them. With a good laugh they can get back to developing their skills in becoming custom body designers and creators.
Gary

Hi Alan,
Simple response to a simple concept. Well stated. If the teachers isn't having fun then nobody is going to have fun with learning.
