Learning through experiences
I have a lot of life stories that I use to get my students involved and interested. They need and I think want to hear what life will be like in the real world after college and I have a lot of experience to supply to them.

This type of connection to your past and to your students is important. They see you as a human being and a successful person in the career field. This generates a strong sense of respect as a result of what you have shared with them.

I try to make a connection to the real world everyday by telling them stories of my past. Some are good and some are bad, but it shows the students that I'm human just like them and I made it.
Students connect more when they realize your more human then it may or may not seem.

They really do like to hear these stories since even though they have chosen this field for their careers, they still are concerned about being able to be successful in it. So the more examples they have about how their instructor was successful or how they can progress in the field the more comfortable they get with their choice.
