Mystery Motivation
I was glad to see mystery listed as a motivation. I have often been perplexed as to why a student made the decision to be in school. Listing it as a motivator made me realize it is ok if I cannot pinpoint the reason they are in my classroom. Sometimes it is just a mystery!
Not all students fall into preset categories,cultural differences,backgrounds and continually changing self assessment may be the reasons behind their motivation mystery, these situations give the instructor an opportunity to learn.

Yes, it can be a mystery. As a planner I have always had my goals laid out and spent time working toward them. So I have to stop and reflect a bit when I encounter a student that is in class just to be there. That is OK and hopefully that student will find his or her place in life and have a rewarding career as well.
