Having fun In class

At the end of a long week I feel it is good to end it with fun, not tests. This keeps the students interested on coming in on a friday. They never know whats in store for them.

I USUALLY GIVE THEM A BREAK IN THE CLASS DISCUSSION AND TEST IN THE END OF THE WEEK AND AND WE TALK ABOUT DIFFERENT THINGS INSTEAD OF SCHOOL WORK AND I TAKE THEM TO COMPUTER ROOM TO INTERACT WITH OTHER STUDENTS.

Hi Darlisa,
Sounds like a fun time for all. Students love playing games and it helps them to reinforce in their working memories the new content they have acquired.

Once a week on Thursdays, I prepare a game for extra points. I divide the class into two groups and have a "game show" on the topic of the lectures for the week.

This is a great idea, as it can be challenging to keep the interest and energy of a class going by friday. I try to end with a lighter note or more fun activity and leave some of the heave more complicated concepst for mid week.

Hi Tracey,
Thanks for sharing this game idea with us. I use games a lot in my class and we have a lot of fun, cover a lot of material and get to know each other in the process. It is a win win for everyone.

I like to play games like WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE with registry questions with rewards of candy (everyone likes chocolate). The class tends to get excited and compete over questions. When someone gives an incorrect answer, the rest of the class has to come up with the reason why it was incorrect. I have students asking me when we can play another game because they remember the concepts and stay engaged.

Hi Peter,
All good ways to introduce variety in the instructional process. Students like the change of pace and humor as they progress through the course.

I also believe that having fun along the way is important. I use games to review important information. I also like to insert funny cartoons or pictures in a power point presentations just to add some surprise and fun to the learning process.

Hi Jeannine,
I teach Dental Assisting. At the end of the week. We go on utube and watch differant dental procedures. The students love it. they enjoy the different sounds. especially extractions of wisdom teeth.

Hi Tim,
Great idea! With this assignment you had them thinking about their field all weekend because I am sure they were wondering how they could make someone happy with food. You were showing them both relevancy and application as a result of this assignment.
Gary

Hello, I love this idea. I teach culinary arts and one Friday before my class left I stopped them and told them I forgot to give them their homework for the weekend which generated a collective moan. But what I told them was sometime over the weekend they were to make someone happy with food, even if was themselves and even if they didn't cook it. On Monday we started off by telling our stories. This kind of stuff works for creating a great culture in the classroom.

Hi Jeannine,
I like this approach as well. It gives the students a chance to relax a bit and sets them up for a positive weekend and hopefully ready for the next week.
