When the instructor shows they love what they are teaching and makes it fun, the students stay engaged and want to learn more and more about the topic.

I agree! It is very important that the Instructor shows enthusiamium about the topic being covered. I have had students become active participants in class discussion because they fed off of my excitement about how I reacted in a challenging situation. They shared some similar situations and how they dealt with them.

Sara,
So true. The students reflect the attitude and enthusiasm we bring to the class each time.
Gary

When students see that their instructor is excited about the material you are discussing, they to get excited. If I make them feel important and needed for the discussion, they can open up and get involed.

Kristy,
Exactly right. We need to remember this as we approach the classroom each time.
Gary

If you show excitement for the material it will lead to interest on their part. I spend the first class or even two getting them excited and putting them at ease.

Great answer! Most of our feelings are contagious. Usually when you smile at someone they smile back. However, the same rules apply in regards to being negative. One bad or negative apple can spoil the whole bunch right.

If you have an instructor that is not enthusiastic about the material they are teaching, you can't exptect their students to be intrigued by this information. By being enthusiastic you demonstrate not only your dedication to the information you are teaching but you are also able to capture the attention of your students and give them a sense of wanting to learn.

Samantha,
You are at a perfect time in the educational sequence of your students. They are coming to you ready to dig in and learn about their career area and you get to share with them content and your experiences. This is what makes teaching fun.
Gary

Ward,
I teach at night as well so I understand what you are talking about in relation to being enthusiastic to keep students engaged.
Gary

Enthusiasm really gets them involved. I am always so excited when a new quarter starts, I can't help it. I get to tell them all the new things that they are getting to learn and how much fun we are going to have. By the time they get to my classes they have finished core classed, so now is the true being of their career learning. There is not a day that they are not learning something about their careers or actually doing hands on in our lab.

I teach students in a night program. Many are coming to class from work. By being enthusiastic, my students are more awake and alert. They learn better this way.

Is very important to be excited and enthusiatic regarding the subject matter that you are teaching. If you are excited this catches on to the students. If you act bored this attitude will also catch on.

If the instructor is enthusiastic about the class, that energy comes across to the students. Students are more likely to enjoy the class and to look forward to coming. If students enjoy the class, they are also more likely to continue to come. If the class is boring, then students might get bored and stop coming to class.

I have found, it doesn't matter if the subject is dreaded by the student. It may not become their favorite, but an instructors excitement about a subject makes it at least bearable for students.

Barbara,
With passion and enthusiasm comes connection to content. You are building a learning bridge for your students to cross with your approach.
Gary

Jeff,
I agree. How can you "sell" your field and the learning required if you don't care about it?
Gary

Patricia,
Your excitement and success in your field is a powerful motivator for your students. Your efforts help to "sell" the learning that needs to occur.
Gary

Jason,
Good for you. With this approach you are helping students to stay engaged even though the content may not be the most exciting even though it is essential for them to learn.
Gary

I am passionate about learning; therefore, I want my students to become passionate also. If I bring my enthusiasm to the class, then they will feed off of my energy. We will then have a dynamic session.
