Hi Cynthia,
Everyone plays a vital role in retention. I like how your have various departments involved as well as the president.

Patricia Scales

We have a weekly retention meeting on our campus that includes Career Services, the Registrar, the campus president and Lead Instructors. It has been very successful in bringing all the departments together for the benefit of keeping the students on the right path.

Hi Ron,
As instructors, we are definitely key players. We see our students more than anyone else in the building does, and we must sell them to keep coming back.

Patricia Scales

THE KEY players are the instructors. Other key players are those that might interact with the student on a regular basis.

I believe it is the goal of everyone within the school to maintain student retention. Admission Representatives should follow-up with students, instructors are on the frontline and should know if a student is not progressing in their studies and is considering dropping. Basically, everyone that the student comes in contact with should encourage and advise the student about the end result of receiving a college education.

Hi Sharon,
I agree! Our students need to know that we are approachable/personable, and we will do whatever we can to help them succeed.

Patricia Scales

I agree with the others that everyone from admissions rep to the campus president have an important part in student retention, each in a different way. I am the librarian at my college. I assist students with technical issues, resumes, cover letters, etc. I try to be the most upbeat person they see everyday. I am always willing to help out as needed because I want each student to succeed. Friendly and caring staff are important in retention.

Hi Tracy,
I concur! WE all have to work hard for our students.

Patricia Scales

Hi Dennis,
Absolutely! We all play a vital role when it comes to managing retention.

Patricia Scales

I believe everyone at the institution is responsible for keeping students enrolled in their program. Students like to see a unified team and everyone working together for their greater good!

Everyone the student may come in contact with. We are all instrumental in this process.

Hi Paul,
I agree! Instructors play a MAJOR role in retention. We have daily contact with the students. We should be the first ones to notice a change in pattern/behavior.

Patricia Scales

Everyone plays a role, the student also holds a responsibility.

Everyone in the school system is responsible for keeping students enrolled in their programs. However, the key players are the instructors that come into contact with the students every day.Instructors should recognize if students are having difficulties and should initiate ideas to help students overcome them. Acting as this first line of defense for students, instructors can hopefully make a difference for students.

Hi Loretta,
I concur! It is certainly a team effort.

Patricia Scales

No one person is the blame, the staff, faculty, and administration are all key players in keeping students enrolled throughout their programs. We must be good listeners.

I think everyone should be involved with the student who is showing signs of dropping. I'm very concerned, I speak with my Program Director and also contact their advisor and discuss what we can do to help.

Hi Linda,
Absolutely! We have to do our due diligence to help our students succeed. It certainly is a team effort.

Patricia Scales

Hi Richard,
Great response! I can tell you are fully involved with retention as everyone should be.

Patricia Scales

I think everyone at the college, from admissions to student support services to the faculty all play a role in retention. They need to work as a team to help the students navigate through a new, strange world and ensure no one falls through the cracks. But the key person is the student, who needs motivation to enroll and determination to succeed. The college provides the learning tools, but the student needs to use them.
