Who is paying the bill?
In many of adult learning, we need to distinguish between two types of customers - the student and the person paying the bill. In some cases, these will be the same person. But in many cases, a parent, grandparent, spouse or some other person will be paying the bill and also should be treated as a customer. In fact, if a parent does not believe the student is getting his money's worth out of the educational experience (for whatever reason), he may pull the cash-flow. So the payor is definitely part of the retention equation.
Hi Laura,
Some courses require students to study and work extremely hard. It is good when this is made known to students up front so that they know they must do their due diligence to do well in the course.

I agree, but with reservation. I teach a very self directed, difficult program material. So, I explain up front the material is hard and without the right mind set, the student will not do well. This is to deter the payor from thinking, when the student gets less than perfect grades, he's not getting what he's paying for.
Hi Marie,
I concur! The person in charge of the bill has to be kept happy. This person makes everything possible for the student.
