Showing empathy is important but it doesn't mean the outcome of the situation can change.
I plan on incorporating the suggestion box where students can anonymously paritcipate in what went well and suggestons on what they would like to see implemented in the classroom setting. I will also continue to lecture but awill dd a lot more student discussions on the topics to better instill the concepts and keep the students motivated to learn. Almost every student, now matter what their age, comes into my classroom with different stressors, education level, life experiences, and self-doubt. Overall. this course has given me the understanding of the importance of better understanding each of my students so i know what motivates them become better learners and therefore closer to their goals.
Experiential inference from educators to learners can enable them to learn and recall information effectively. Having an ability to connect data points more profoundly can often be the balance between understanding and confusion.
Know your students and be aware of teaching styles to motivate them. Create a safe environment to have good student participation.
If i am excited about the subject I am teaching then the students will be excited to learn it
you need to motivate studentsas you want them to learn, retain and transfer this education to the field. Knowyour content, students, create an envirnment that allows them to take risks and trascend the message. Give frequent and prompt feedback.
I appreciate the recommendation to get to know your students and understand their motivation to learn. I plan to work towards obtaining this undertsanding early in the course leading to increased student engagement and retention.
When asked a question, pause and reframe the answer in your mind before speaking up to avoid "um and ah" which may create doubt in the minds of the students
In this section, I learned that you can teach in such a way that will allow students to take risks. In the Havard video, the presenter mentioned the student should want to take risks. At that time I was wondering "what risk?" Maybe, the risk in answering a question, the risk in performing their simulation solo instead of with a partner. I will utilize this in my teaching nursing simulation classes.
Students need the opportunity to apply their learning in a real world situation. This is where it's great to be a CTE teacher; providing students with a learning experience that can be reinforced with a hands-on or project-based application is the formula for success in CTE.
Motivating students is essential to retaining students. I have students who sometimes bring a wealth of life experience to the class and express that the assignments are meaningless to them. I encourage to take classes and assignments they are already know as something to pad their tool boxes and their GPAs. There is going to come a time when they just might learn something if they open their minds to it. I let them know that I am always learning each time I teach a course. I learn from the material as well as from their experiences.
This module provides a guide to bridge the gap between the students success and understanding outside life instances with occur. In addition, the knowledge to understand it is important as an instructor to ensure our skill in the field is show displayed through out the lesson to provided students with reassurance that we are knowledgable.
using my own real life workexperiences can help in student engagement. Providing prompt feedback is also important so that the students can be motivated and make corrections where necessary.
From this module I learm=ned that motivating students takes on many different paths. Also having passion for the subject you are teaching makes a huge difference when you are teaching it to your students.
Students can lose their enthusiasm about the subject quickly if they don't know how they are doing in the course. Immediate feedback helps them to know they are doing well or shows them areas in which they need to improve. Make sure to use the "Ah Ha" moments to help with the episodic memory.
I often motivate my students by relating my expertise on the subject matter n a way where they don't mind giving feedback even if they are wrong. I let them to that this is a safe place and I rather you get it wrong hear so we can correct the issue before you get ot in the field and cost your company time and money.
