To do lists

I always appreciate using a "to do" list. It offers me the opportunity to either write a physical list or enter items into the task list on my online calendar. I don't usually physically prioritize the list, but make a mental note of which activities are the highest priority.

Some great ideas described here, regarding "to-do" lists. I'll try several of them!

I try to do things as soon as I can too. And my wife keeps me posted on things I need to do..=)

That's a great system Thomas! I too often use my inbox as a to do list, especially when pen and paper aren't handy.

I haven't went so far as an Excell application, but I have got into the habit of sending myself an e-mail last thing at night of the things that need to be done the next day. This way when I open up for business the next day, I check e-mail and get reminded of the day ahead. This can also be printed if your working with a team for them to know what is on your agenda. I have found that you will receive alot more help when they can volunteer for tasks rather than being assigned tasks.

I make a new list daily. It keeps me on track, especially when I am juggling a lot!

When I write soemthing down, and create my list, I feel better about things. I feel that some pressure has been taken off and I seem to be more relaxed. I really have to write alist or I find myslf in trouble....stressed!

Scott

Agreed! What agreat point you make! With the many distractions we encounter, the list keeps us on track.

I have a "to do" list always. Not only to remind me of what is important to get done, but as I get older, if I dont write things down, I forget them! A list is a great way to simply stay organized!

Yes, it sounds like it's time to build upon your foundation Marien. You've got to to do list going and that's a fantastic first step. Now it's time to prioritize and take your existing system to the next level.

I agree with Robert. A "to do list" is something that I have been do in, however I most of the time I do not prioritize my taks. Now I can see that I wil be even mor efficient.

Yes, some people like a separated list of work and personal tasks. Others like one consolidated list. Just depends on your personal preferences as well as your working style.

I like using a to-do list to help make sure I don't forget what I need to get done. I often use list as reminders and will have a couple of different list based on priority. This also allows me to separate what I need for in class to-do's and outside of class.

Yes, it's great to hear that you've been successfully using to do lists in the past Sean. Now it's time to stand on that good foundation with a little prioritization too. This will really help you take personal organization to the next level.

I have often used to-do lists at work and home. Prioritizing was never as much of an issue as I was mainly concerned with making sure I don't forget to get something done! I need to work on incorporating priority into my lists to make them that much more effective!

I find that using my "to do" list really takes a lot of pressure off me when I have a lot going on. It helps me stay on task and focused on what I need to do first. I find it a major stress reducer instead of scrambling to figure out what I need to do (I used to function that way but multi-tasking has taken its toll). I can't live without my lists now and it feels great to see some things crossed off too!

Yes, sometimes we just can't get everything finished. But writing things down definitely gets everything out of our heads and clears our minds to work more efficiently.

I would agree. If I write it down I do not have to think about it any more, it is in writing. Also I do not have to stress over if I have forgot anything. Only issue I have is the prioritizing part of my to do list, and being able to get it all finished.

That's a good question Fran. The answer really depends on how many tasks you receive each week and how quickly they must get processed. If you receive only a few tasks each week, you may not have to write your list very often. If you have many tasks coming in all at once, it can be good to re prioritize more regularly.

I agree, I also learned a lot from this module. I have been making to do lists for a number of years now but I rarely prioritize them. I can see that prioritizing will help me from going astray and will help me complete important tasks in a timely manner.

How often do you make a new list?
