Yes I will. One thing is to stop checking emails every time I get one. When I do that I interupt the task at hand and I should allow that distraction from what I am doing at the time.
I am definitely use to prioritizing in my life! As a result, I feel I am pretty good at it. I often tell my students that it is anextremely important tool to learn.
I tend to focus on the most important tasks (while considering urgency). However, the greatest challenge I have to controlling my time occurs when emerging/unexpected tasks arise. Thus, I believe flexibility is an important concept to keep in mind when managing a task list/schedule. We may control our own time, but we do not necessarily control the tasks that must be accomplished. A flexible approach makes it easier to reconstruct and re-prioritize a task list.
as the word prioritazation implies, it should be done according to the urgency of the matter. as you go along your plans, sometimes a more important things has to be done and that takes precedent to everything else.
I usually do the most important ones right away. The issue I have are pushing off the unpleasant ones. They may not need to be taken care of quickly but when I don't they stress me out.
I learned that doing the important task right away tends to ease our life and time, make sense to tasks in time so that we can manage our time properly.
I prioritize my tasks not only by importance, but also by the amount of time they will take to complete. So I can work on item while I wait for the other item to finish, etc
It's interesting but sometimes ADHD actually helps Marsa - especially for instructors who have to switch tasks quickly and often.
Sounds like a good step in the right direction Michael. Yes, it's tempting to want to complete tasks one by one as they come in. However, we are far more effective when we take a step back and make assignments on priority.
In the past I would usually try to complete tasks in the order I receive them. I will most likely look at the importance of each task first now.
I definitely identify with the obstacle of immediacy. I am constantly going and going. I do not see it as a negative however, I am ADHD and I typically can get it all done. From work, to kids, to coaching kids wrestling, to everything. I would rather be busy than bored.
sounds like a great start, by reorganizing your office and setting priorities.
Yes, I will generate a "TO DO" list, to reduce the stress level in my life and teaching various classes. I will prioritize the most important tasks, compared to the least important task, so that I will not be late in accomplishing any of the tasks that are the most important.
I agree i am good in stablish a daily plan but no all the time is possible to achieved.
Task prioitization has always been one of my strengths. I probably will not change the order because I understand important v. urgent when it comes to tasks to be accomplished.
I do have a tendency to want to meet all obligations immediately, and am sometimes frustrated if I have to interupt a certain task in order to complete another.
This lesson has taught me that sooner is not always better and I'm working on giving myself some leaway.
Sounds like you've got a great system and one that works really well for you Jerry! Keep it up!
I have learned over time to develop my to do list for the week and set my priorities each day based on what needs to be accomplished for the week. I set my most important tasks at the top and work my way down. Each day, two to three tasks are circled for completion until I finish the list. Goals are set for each day this way until the to do list is complete.
Yes, I think to do lists are the right approach to address your problem Doug. Go ahead and give them a try and see if they help.
Mark, go ahead and use the method that helps you make the most progress. If it's motivating to start with a few easy tasks, do those first.
Some of the time I will start with the most important tasks and take care of them first but most of the time I will do the tasks that I feel are going to be easier or more fun or take the least amount of time.
Based on this module, I will change my thinking and start with the tasks that truly are the most important and tackle them first.
