Alot of the information in the course "ED110 - Time & Stress Management for Instructors" I have been using copping mechanisms like exercise and breathing along with getting mroe rest and it has been very beneficial.

if not for stress i dont think i would be as an effective instructor, its what keeps me on my toes.

Merrick, It sounds like you have found a wonderful outlet and one you can count on. This is great to hear. Having reliable outlets that we can count on in a crisis can put us in a great position to manage through stress as it arises.

For me to deal with stress, I need a distraction. My best one is to stop and turn on some gospel music and get lost in the message of the song. That works for me 100% fo the time

Tea works wonders! Drink some and take a bath. Enjoy!

Raquel, Yes, it's amazing how well counting to 10 works. It's something we all learn when we are very young but can serve us well at any age. Sometimes when things get really stressful, counting to 20 works too!

I must agree that taking a deep breath and mabye even counting to ten. Is a good way to calm yourself when dealing with a stressful situation. Taking some time away from the situation to regroup is good to do as well.

Tiffany, The quality of your singing voice doesn't matter in these kinds of situations. It's all about how singing makes you feel. Clearing this is a wonderful outlet for you so I encourage you to keep it up.

It is difficult for me to rest when I have a feeling of stress. One thing that helps me calm down from daily stresors is to listen to my Ipod and sing loudly at home or in the car. It is funny because I cannot sing, but it releives a LOT of stress!

Steven, Sounds like you have some great coping mechanisms to fall back on, and ones that work really well for you. Great to hear. Yes, even taking just a few minutes out of your busy schedule can make a dramatic difference on how you feel.

A deep breath, stepping back, taking a short walk, these are methods I use to de-stress quickly. I often feel overwhelmed, when I do, I choose a de-stresser that works for me, take a few minutes, think it through and re-focus.

I think that sometimes our "stresses" are self created. When we begin to realize that we don't have any control over things that cause the stress, we begin to learn to not let those things bother us. I just always try to do the best I can at any given time.

I agree. sometimes just stepping back from the stressful situation and taking time to let my brain think about something else for a few minutes helps me to come back to the issue better prepared.

Remonica, Sometimes just breathing can make a big impact. When we are stressed, we often forget to breathe and take short breaths. Focusing on breathing for just a few moments can make all the difference.

I think stress plays a great part in my life. I love the job in which I preform. It helps to take long deep breaths and exercise really help to be ready to face my class.

Gail, Great thoughts. Yes, it is possible to get a higher quality sleep when your night hours are limited. Some instructors turn on a fan or find other ways of creating white noise while they sleep. This at least blocks noise distractions. Staying away from caffeine at night is another great approach.

In this day and age so much is expected of you that lack of sleep is a given both for instructors as well as students. Finding how to sleep well with less hours of sleep is the key. I have found that sometimes working at the early morning hours helps alleviate stress for the day because I accomplished so much in the quite of the early morning.

Peggy, Excellent to hear! I appreciate the feedback.

Meher, So true. For some instructors, this is a problem that lasts years and years. Sometimes, the timing is off. I might recommend taking naps when you find the time.
