Online Gradebook

I have used Engrade as an online gradebook. It allows students to see and monitor their grades as well as communicate with me. I have found it really useful.

Melanie, This is an important point. With online grading tools, we must carefully assess their ability to keep grades secure and confidential. This is a priority. Investing in a tool that has a few minor security bugs may not be worth it.

I think the concept of the online gradebook is great. We, however had some security issues with one of the sites but overall it makes my job easier...no more students asking for grades !!!

I like the online grading book and started using it this year. Yes, student have access as soon as the work is posted but it allows them to see where they are at all times in the class and help with their questions. The only issue is them not seeing the notes on papers etc. unless you scan it in. This however gets resolved once I return papers.

Harold, Sounds like an opportunity to improve. Digital grade books that communicate scores to students can save a tremendous about of time in your communications to them. Some of these can also break down which answers students missed and give them feedback on how to improve - enhancing the learning experience.

I use our grade book which keeps attendence, test scores, lab grades, plus any down grades for professionalism. we still have hand grade the test and enter, plus hand score lab sheets and hand enter. This system is not accessable for students to look at.

That's a wonderful system Wendy. When students can check in on grades without our help, they gain independence and we gain time. It's a win win.

I use gradekeeper. I actually looked into using Engrade as well. It is nice because students can see and monitor their grades while communicating with their instructor.

Thanks for the recommentdation Gale and I agree! Engrade is a wonderful tool and there are so many others out there like them. Sometimes we've got to take a look around at all of the wonderful tools available to us. It takes time to search, but in the end, we save more time.

I teach at a career college that uses Engrade.com as well and I have found it to be a great tool not only for the instructors, but also for the students. The students like it and believe me they check it often as if the grades are going to magically change or something. I would recommend this website to anyone who is not using it. I have also worked with Blackboard and Moodle online formats. These are also helpful for students when they miss class. This helps them to keep up with what is going on without asking the instructor what they missed when they were absent from class.

So great to hear Jenny! Yes, often times when we grade more efficiently, we aren't the only ones who benefit. Students love the flexibility and control of online grade reporting. It helps them track their progress at a detailed level.

We use Engrade at my school too and it is wonderful. Besides being a gradebook, you can also develop online quizzes/exams, add supplemental material, create discussion boards and your students are able to message you directly through Engrade as opposed to trying to remember my actual email address. I absolutely love it and the students love the fact that they can see exactly where they stand in the class on a daily basis.

I don't know if I use engrade or not but I do like the online grade book. I am a procrastinator, so having to enter grades each day helps me stay on top of my work load.

I really like using our online grade system. The only drawback is that the students can access their grades as soon as I enter them. Doesn't leave much room for errors.

Wonderful to hear Rachel!!! After an initial ramp up and time investment, I think you will be amazed at how much easier things become when you leverage this tool.

I just setup my teacherease.com grade book! I hope this helps from hours of grading to minutes! seems like it so far!

Indeed! Online grade books really transform our tasks as instructors. We evolve from doing clerical tasks to focusing much more on student learning needs.

I love online gradbooks such as engrade. When I found it or was introdused to it I thought wow, what a great tool to make my life a little bit easier. I would have to hand write all my students names and grades into an old fasion gradebook before engrade. what an awesome way to allow engrade to calculate my percentages for me. It weighs grades and drops the lowest schore and allows me to copy grades to the next class if needed.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing Lauren. Yes, it's really nice when we can automate the grade checking process as well as the grading process. Using this method, we are often able to give our students their grades and feedback faster - which is something that can decrease the short term stress they experience after exams.

I use Engrade online gradebook also. I am very pleased with it because students are able to check their grades and I am also able to post assighnments.
