STRESS
Stress is something we all live with in our everyday lives. This is normal to a extent. We all need alittle stress to be productive such as deadlines, schedules ect.. But over the top stress day in and day out 24/7 could be life threatning. The body starts breaking down from the inside out, it could start with a cold and end up with a long term death sentence. Juggling personal and professional life is hard but I feel we have to take time for ourselves to rest, eat well and excerise to beable to keep up with this fast pace life. Sheryl Kiser
I have a lot of stress in my life.... when ever i talk it over with a friend it seams like the weight of stress is slowly be lifted off my sholder.
When it comes to work, I find that talking about what is stressing me out can help. Perhaps other people may not appreciate me "dumping" on them, so I try not to sound like I am complaining, but if it is something that I feel can be fixed by talking about it, then I will. For example, I just spoke with my dean today actually about a textbook that I am unhappy with. It made me feel so much better to let her know why I felt the textbook was inappropriate for the class, and to know that she was cooperating with me to try to find a solution. I also think it is important to prioritize, and also writing down sources of stress, like described in this module, can be very helpful.
I think this is a very important one for me. I struggle with it in two ways. Sometimes I put myself on a timetable that is way to rigid and sometimes I let things go because I don't have a time frame to get them done in.
Stress is unavoidable. It is all around us but it is how we handle it that matters. You have to find what works for you so that it doesn't interfere with all other aspects of your life. Finding things that are calming and make you happy help. Even if you have to go into the bathroom for 5 min just to get a break, I have found this helps. It helps bring you back to the main point.
Different forms of stress are unavoidable for me and for most people. After experiencing the stages of burnout myself from a previous employer i made it a point after i left to find a hobby that made me happy. Suddenly i wasnt consumed with the idea that work was all i was. I had something to look forward to. So no matter i tough my day was i felt it wasnt the end all be all. I implore all to find a hobby, something you really enjoy, no matter how big or small.
Vanessa, Glad to hear you have reached a point of acceptance when it comes to stressors that cannot be eliminated. For people who are natural problem solvers, this is particularly hard. It's important to realize that some problems don't have good or clean solutions. Sometimes, we've just got to find a way to cope.

David, Yes, other people can definitely cause dependencies in completing tasks. Checking in is one technique that helps move people along. Another technique, however, is setting clear expectations for timing at the start of each project.

I completly agree with you there are times that stress cant be avoided so the best thing to do is learn different skills to cope so it does not consume you.
Tere are times when is stress cannot be avoided, becasue we work with other people and on their time line. However, with frequent and open conversation stress can be minimize.
