excercise

I have found as well that exercise can be an immense coping mehanism here. I agree totally!!!

Chuck, That's great to hear. I'd be curious to hear more about how many push-ups you do. Sometimes just a few is not enough, but a few rounds could work!

Dr. Melissa Read

I simply do a few round of push-up a few times a day gets the old hart pumping and my mind is on proper exercise form not thinking about what is stressing me out

Jerry, Exercise in the morning - or really any stress reducing activity at that time - is a great way to start the day. Taking a little time for you can really set the tone for how the rest of the day will go.

Dr. Melissa Read

I found that exercising in the morning really helps me get my day started stress free, along with breathing through out the day at stressful times keeps my day going.

Excellent to hear John! For those who have the time, taking even a small walk between classes can significantly improve our outlook. We are often more effective instructors for it too.

I take a nice brisk walk between classes, this also seems to help.

What an interesting pairing Joseph. Typically stressful jobs are in stressful environments. Glad your environment gave you the chance to get away. Ultimately, moving away and finding a less stressful job was probably the best choice.

During the most stressful job I ever had I was fortunate enough to be up in the mountains and was able to go for very nice long extensive walks / hikes. This helped immensely with reducing the stress from work and was allowing me to refocus my life during that time. I helped me to cope and allowed me to open up enough to move away and find a better job with less stress. Excercise helps ALOT.

A change of scenery w/ aerobic-type exercise
(walking, jogging) is a great way to eleminate
tension and overpowering negativity. Yoga can
also help relieve some of the physical anxiety.

What a wonderful approach Teri. Love the idea of having two great coping mechanisms in one. Must be a great bonding experience for you as well.

There are actually a few of us at my full time job who walk around the building during our lunch hour to help reduce stress during the work day. It not only allows us the opportunity to exercise but we also talk and have the opportunity to 'vent' at the same time.

Longer runs and workout sesssions are great to relieve stress. However, I have also found that a short walk around the outside of the building coupled with deep breathing can be a quick fix for stress reduction.

What a wonderful approach Robin. Really like the idea of your testing and learning what works for you and then communicating the message to others so they can benefit. It's great to share knowledge on what helps reduce stress and make us happier.

Until reading through this module, I actually had no idea that exercise makes a huge difference in relieving stress. In retrospect, I feel much better when I exercise 3 - 4 times per week as opposed to less. I have started spreading the news to fellow faculty, students and family memebers! THANK YOU!!! :)

Does very well for all aspects of teaching

Great point Randolph! Stretching alone is a great way to unwind. Doing it just before exercise can prevent injury too!

Exercise always helps but before exercising I find streaching helps to warm up breathing exercises gives your mind something else to focus on and clears the mind. Streaching and exercise will increase your mental focus .

Excellent approach Alphia. Sounds like that long corridor is a great place to take a step back and unwind. Nice to know you've got a place on campus like this.

WE have a long corridor at school , i find walking the hall way with quick steps help me to cope and relax especially if i am unabe to exercise for that week because of my schedule. Exercise is the greatest stress reliever for me.
