I used to be really health conscious and was very rigid about sticking to a regular workout schedule. Since having a child, I have fallen victim to the old saying that there's just not enough time for exercise.
I have noticed that my way of dealing with stress is to avoid dealing with it all. I've been procrastinating and putting things off, adding to my stress level even more.
After completing this module I realize that incorporating just a few minutes of exercise and stretching is better than none at all. This course is speaking directly to me and couldn't have come at a better time.
I will have to discuss with my 4 year old about pick up his toys and have a system in place so he is rewarded for his action. This will at least reduce some stress. Failing that, simply watching him play with his toys and being creative is a joy.
I find that exercising and sharing your stressors with friends helps reduce stress greatly. I will focus on implementing these more.
The time has come to take that regular walk with my wife each day for a stress reliever. Besides, it will be a way to reconnect after the stresses of both our days and get healthier at the same time.
I agree. A good balance of everything is important.
I think i need to commit to more exercise when stressed out. Another thing that helps is to take myself offline on days off. This helps reduce anticipation over things i can't take care of until i return to work.
In order to deal with stress that I cannot eliminate or significantly reduce I will discuss these stressors with my good friend who happens to be a psychiatrist. Additionally, I will get back into a regular exercising routine and be sure to get the proper amount of sleep.
Kimberly this is a great stress releaser. I find myself doing a lot of walking when the weather starts to warm up.
I think there are many different ways I can manage my stress but one thing that I tend to do is watch shows on t.v. and read books that have no literary value at all:) I think some times as professors we get so caught up in our field of study that we don't take the time to laugh or just relax.
First I have to Proritize my day and I find if I don't schelude the time to go to the gym, I don't go. I'm making a list and putting it up on my mirror, so I can't help but stick to it.
I need to focus on the things I can change and find ways to control and overcome the things I can't change.
I try to keep myself busy doing the activities i enjoy the most such as bycling which helps me release some of that stress as well as get a good cardio work out.
Reading a good book and spending as much time with my loved ones and thanking God for what I have compared to some of my peers makes me feel better.
Kickboxing sounds exciting Cynthia. Why not go ahead and give it a try. Sometimes it's hard to get back into old routines (e.g. yoga). Sometimes it's actually easier to start new ones.
I need to set aside time for me, and start practicing yoga again. I also think that an aggressive activity like kickboxing would be a good way for me to get out my pent up frustration.
Definitely exercise! Taking even just 20 minutes a day for a walk would be a good 'me' break. Time to think and re-charge is always a good thing. Also, drinking more water is important. And, talking to others and sharing ideas on how to cope would be helpful.
Wow, watching Manatees or dolphins on a dock sounds really special Joe. What a great way to cope with stress - especially if you find the time to do it often.
Exercise, breathing and stretching help. I also take time to relax in the evening after a stressful commute. Music, relaxation and sitting on the dock watching for Manatees or dolhins definately helps.
It sounds like you are in a good place when it comes to handling stress David. You know what works for you and you have reasonable expectations of yourself and others.
I don't like the word stress. It sounds as if there's something out there beyond God's control. I help work out my challenges with prayer, spending time with my family, and almost daily exercise. I've learned everybody handles things differently.
It's interesting the way that works Ekpedeme! By investing time in a some healthy coping mechanisms, we can be rejuvenated and energized.
