I find that if I fall asleep in a chair or on the ciouch, I will get kinks in my neck, which lead to headaches......A proper good night sleep in a bed helps reduec stress and headaches!

This is agood idea. The problem I have is that my day is so full, I need to prioritize and make excercise a priority. This should help get rid of some stress!

I think clearly, that more excercise would help me. I just am usually so tired by the end of the day, I don't do it!

When I am coping with stress in my life I do yoga, mediation exercise or some form of relaxation this helps me to destress. Deep Breathing also works well.
Sounds tough Todd! Perhaps when your son gets a little older, you can play soccer together! That could be a great way to spend time and stay active.
I have to agree Gordan, I USED to me more active, in soccer. I quit 10 years ago, after playing well into my 20's. Last year I played again for the 1st time in ages, it was great to be involved in SOMETHING OTHER THAN WORK! This year with the addition of our new son, the wife has forbidden it. I will have to find some other Healthy coping mechanism this winter. Good luck to all of us on the education front lines dealing with our stressed out students young and older and may our ability to overcome our own personal and professional stressors be a light to them all!
I think the first in coping with any stress is to recognize and admit that stressors exist. Although there are stressors that can't be eliminated, I believe that there are very few that can't be reduced in some fashion. If you can't control the stressors, you can learn to control your reactions to them. Discussing these stressors with co-workers or family members can put some of these into perspective. I personally find that having hobbies are a good way of decompressing from the stresses of the day.
Yes, these are all great ways to cope with stress Emma. I particularly enjoy sleep! Limiting caffeine intake and getting a little exercise during the day can help with that.
For the stressors I can't eliminate or reduce my ways to cope with them are follows,
-talk it over with someone, generally just the communication alone makes it not so stressful
-get regular excercise
- get enough sleep!!!
Ha! Tinkering with automobiles is not a coping mechanism I hear of often but sounds really fun John. Thanks for sharing!
Sitting for prolonged periods a day can be tough Vicki. Online instructors are particularly at risk for this problem. Even if we work from home, it's important to break up the day by getting up and at least stretching.
Excellent Robert! Positive coping mechanisms are the way to go because they serve us well in the short and long term.
I can identify with much of what is identified in this module. I have begun to use positive coping mechanisms to deal with the stressors which can not be eliminated.
Too much sitting: try to get up at least once an hour to, at the very least, stretch but preferably walk for a couple of minutes. Try to get into an exercise routine at home that consists of more than a stroll with the dog.
Talk to friends a bit more about what does stress me at work, it might lessen the load.
Walkling on the treadmill to burn off some stress and calories is one way I cope with stress, another is going out to the garage to tinker with automobiles.
Really love that saying Robert! It's amazing how many instructors in this course have mentioned their love of motorcycles too.
Yes, separation from the stressor is key Nancy. Sometimes we just have to step away. We are often far better when we return.
Depending on the time I have, I might do a physical activity like take a walk or take a hot bath, listen to music....most important I will separate myself from the stressor.
My copeing mechanism is riding my motorcycle. it goes to the old saying "that you never see a Motorcycle parked outside of an Psychiatrist office".I ride allmost every day so I cope with stress twice a day.Even in rush hour traffic I can zip through it faster than the cars, so I get a good feeling that I am moveing along while others are stopped. Also when riding it focuses my mind and I forget all about the day.
Wow, 5-6 hours of sleep doesn't sound like enough Nicholas. Everyone has different needs but it's important to discover yours and cater to them.
