I will continue my exercise routines and continue to do what I can to reduce and eliminate unnecessary stressors.
Children demands
exercise, time to breath, meditate etc.
Those are both great tips Jose. Sometimes simple things, like sleeping and moving around a bit, can make a big difference.
When I noticed my students are stressed in the classroom, I use to ask them to stand up and do 10 or 20 jumping jacks in place. I learned this strategy from Dra. Elias, while I was doing my masters at Nova Southeastern University.
I also strongly believe it is necessary to sleep as many hours as our body needs. So keeping a sleep journal to record how many hours the students are sleeping would be of good help for me and for them.
Indeed, it is best to focus on the things we have control over.
I will try to get more exercise and/or sleep in the future. In addition I must try and not worry about things that I have little to no control over.
I love weight training too. In fact, I love to exercise. But, I am not consistent.
Exercise seems to reduce my stressors. When I am on track, I can tune out some of the distractions I allow to get to me during the day.
Also, taking baby steps works for me. When I try to move too fast I become overwhelmed.
This was a good reinforcment class.
Thank you
Starting small is a great idea Marcia! Sometimes we just need time to incorporate good habits into our routines.
As for swimming, most people have a hard time keeping up with it in the winter months. Finding an alternative sport to do during those times can help keep you going.
Ricky, I find it is helpful for me to be organized. Hence, the reason I am taking this course.
Tuesday night, I went home, focused on cleaning up all of the items I did not finish the week before.
I took time for myself. My mind was still on the items I needed to complete but I reduced one of my stressors.
I love to swim. However, when I start to swim, I am not consistent about going.
I need to do 2 things. I need to make sure I eat properly so I do not experience severe blood sugar drops (some of the reason for my inconsistency) and I need to set up a schedule that starts with small steps (1x a week to 3x a week and etc.).
I find that meditation also helps
Stretching seems to be the best for me
Open a blog with my students - I think I stress for them more than they do. I also will try to breath a little more, slow down my lectures try to introduce some online tutorials. I usually have good time management, but I do so much throughout my day - it's crazy. That's the life of a working mamma to be!
Great point Luis. A great way to learn how to manage stress is to look to others who are in the same situation and ask "How are they managing stress?" If we study enough people, we find a few who are great role models as well as others that show us what not to do.
There are many stress factors in my daily life, I must attempt to use instructors around me that are great at managing stress, to get advice. At the same time share some of my own concerns. Make list detailing the stress factors in my life. and tools that can help me overcome them.
Thanks for sharing Keith! What a unique coping mechanism!
Each person copes with stress in their own way... I prefer to use rumination on positive virtues and how these can be applied in my life. This along with music I find helps some to cope with stress.
Thanks for sharing Solita! Yes, exercise can be a great stress reducer, but also has positive effects in terms of overall health and wellness.
Many years ago to deal with stress I used to be an emotional eater, in turn I gained alot of weight. One day I just had enough the stress from teaching and working a full time job plus having to take care of 3 kids. My husband was always on the road because he's a truck driver I felt like I was taking care of everyone else except for myself. I joined weight watchers, joined a gym and I couldn't be happier. Exercise is a big stress reliever. Whenever I find myself getting stressed out about something I take some time out to do yoga, or just take a walk.
That sounds like a great step in the right direction Eva!
