Take a walk and get fresh air. If over stressed Take a break.
I have eliminated most stressors from my life. I love my life and job. If stressors do crop up, I'll deal with them from a position of calm and grace.
Ha! What a great find Mike. Sometimes it's the little things that really bother us - far more than we know. Finding a way to eliminate annoying sounds or other stressors can make a huge difference. You're not alone in stress eating too. It's a very common challenge to have. Bringing healthy snacks is the right choice.

Sounds like the right approach Kathy. Now to figure out which kind of exercise and techniques you will use. To start, I recommend walking and breathing exercises. These can even be completed at the same time. It's a low impact way to get into a routine that works for you.

Sounds like a great plan Peter. To your point, we've really got to find a good balance when it comes to sharing. Keeping things locked up inside is not healthy, as I'm sure you've experienced. At the same time, we want to make sure to respect the time of others in our lives.

Sounds like a great approach Jorge. It's wonderful when we have a good plan in place to deal with stress. Of course the next step is execution. It's ok to start small and build upon an initial foundation.

Wonderful to hear Jong. It's amazing how much exercise can alter our mood. When we complete a great workout, we often have a completely different outlook and feeling about our days.

I have started an exercise class with some of my peers. We encourage each other and enjoy our time. I am also chaning my eating habits. I have more energy and seem to be in a "better" mood.
I will address the items on my stress list in order to reduce their impact or eliminate them altogether. For those that I am forced to cope with a regular exercise routine and practice deep breathing throughout proves very effective.
I plan to do more sharing as a stress reducer. I often keep my stressors to myself and I let them fester to an unhealthy level. I only hope is that I do not over tax my friends and family with my stress relief plan.
I think that I will try and do some healthy exercise and some relaxation techinques to try and reduce some of my stressors
I will often eat sugary foods and things I don't generally eat when I am stressed after teaching, and then feel bad about doing so. I am going to bring healthier snacks to replace this and I will feel better about it.
Taking action on stressors is a great idea. I didn't realize how much the air conditioning noise bothered me until reading this!
Neal, It sounds like you are dealing with a lot of stress. At the same time, also sounds like you've found several great ways to manage and cope with it. Listening to music, walking and even just opening the windows and getting fresh air are all wonderful ways to deal with stress.
Sounds like a great combination Jeb! Low impact, relaxing and energizing all in one!
first of all i do not sleep well when i have a lot on my plate. i find myself waking up trying to remember and solve all of the next days problems. now i know this may not be helping but hurting my health. i have found the only way i can sleep through the night is to have music on in the back round. the trick is to have it loud enough for me but not so loud that it wakes up my wife. so i am hoping that one stress does not lead to another. also as long as the weather permits my wife and i are taking what we call our sanity walks. it gives us time to get a little fresh air and talk. lastly i try to see that very little of our lives is beyond our control. it looks to me that about 80% of our lives is how we react to the 20% we cannot change.
Exercise, Yoga, Tai Chi, and meditation....nothing works better.
Unaddressed stress can result in everything from accidents to divorce. The most important strategy I have found is to recognize when stress is happening, both in myself and others, stop and acknowledge it, then take steps to manage it. Stress can cause real damage before you realize it, if you don't actively pay attention to the signs of stress.
Sounds like a great approach Wendy. It's important to focus on the big picture and what really matters. Taking deep breaths is a great method and something you can do anywhere. Walking is wonderful too!
Good idea Anthony. Sometimes it is best to take a step back and take a look at the big picture. Writing things down is a great way to take yourself through that process.
To be honest some of the stressor's mentioned I had not even thought about. I am gong to sit down and make a list and step back and see how I can effectively reduce the stress not only at work but at home as well. Good topic for anyone especially in career school teaching environments.
