Putting a fresh face on an old course
While I did find Module 1 interesting I do everything that it discussed. What I'm looking for are new ways to do old things. Sometimes I teach the same courses, 2, 3, or 4 terms in a row and while it may be new to the students it is old to me. Are there any suggestions as to how to make that first day more interesting when using the same materials over and over again? What I'm looking for is a way to take what I have (which from my instructor surveys is awesome) and make it awesome to me again.
It is important to constantly make the class content for old courses current and relevant. This would entail reading the latest journals, speaking to instructors in other schools who teach similar classes, using search engines. New class material keeps the instructor excited about offering something new to the class. Plus as instructors our reservoir of knowledge needs to be growing constantly to keep ourselves motivated.
this is a great question something I struggle with also.. I would love to see more suggetions on this question? Being a new teacher I really could use some help on this also!
I always incorporate ideas or concepts that I didn't do before. I like keeping things fresh and innovative. For icebreakers, utilize the internet to search for ideas. The internet has a ton of sites with some great ideas for your class.
Hi Dawne,
At the end of the grading term, get suggestions from your students as to what could have been done differently to make the class more interesting.
