Hi Sara,
There are many people who are very bright, but they are unable to explain things to others. We are gifted an talented human beings just from having the ability to simplify various concepts so that our students can learn from us. We can teach many concepts various ways in order to make one understand. This is a gift...

Hi Shannon,
Students become really excited whenever they can hear real and applicable stories to the lesson.

Hi Grace,
I like how you push certification. Certification is certainly important with all the competition that exists.
Patricia
I think that we should strive to make as much as possible be relevant between course work and real wold work
I have already answered this twice

One of the big things that I have put major though into is the importance of the relationship between instructor and student. The student looks up to the instructor based on their professional experience and knowledge of the topic, but it there is a fine line for the instructor to remain "real and approachable" to the students as well.
This can presents a challenge sometimes as the instructor may forget to simply put themselves in the students shoes. We must remember that it the delivery of the material is important as the material itself. An instructor may be the most knowledgable person on a topic, but if that knowledge can not be delivered in a way that students can accept and learn from it, what use is it to them?
This is something that I continue to work at with each new class of students.
Hi Grace,
How do you go about showing course relevancy in the various courses you teach?
Patricia
Discuss case studies or real-life situations. (Things that really happened.)
I feel that showing relevancy of course content helps students see the need for the content to help them in their chosen program, if they see the relevancy in the course and understand that this helps them to get to where they want and need to be in order to be successful in their profession

Hi Linda,
I have found that students can sometimes reach other students a lot better than instructors can. Students expect us to say positive/encouraging things, but when other students say positive/encouraging things, students really become interested.
Patricia
Our school classes generally include students with many diverse backgrounds, age and experience, learning new computer programs. I find it helps to have experienced students tell how they have used a particular program in previous work experience.
Hi Doris,
I agree. If students understand how useful the course will be for them to succeed in the work place they tend to have a keen interest in the course.
Patricia
Hi Michael,
It is so exciting if we as educators can make everything we teach apply to the work force. Students really become interested once they determine how a course can help them professionally.
The best way to show the relevancy of the course is to give examples of how they will use the course content when they are employed in their field. A veterinary tech student may need to use accounting to assist in keeping financial records or maintaining inventory. An accounting student will need good writing skills to prepare audit reports and financial statement notes.
Always compare the course content with real world application examples; Use printed examples, hands on activities, invite guest speakers from the profession.
Giving them real-life examples of how the information can help them in their career field would be a good method.
Adult students are work place motivated. How will this new information apply in the work force.
I discuss with the students real world examples as well as example from area professionals.
When I can, I bring in my own experience in the field to demonstrate the relevancy of course content. It would go something like: "You're probably wondering why we cover this topic in this course. Well, let me share something with you that happened to me while I was practicing in the field...". Giving actual examples of how relevant the material is, seems to facilitate buy-in from the students.
Hi Grace,
How do you go about showing course relevancy based on the courses you teach?
