It's helpful to show your students examples of the work they will be doing so they can see what is expected and how it should look in the end. It also gives them a chance to see it done before actually having to do it themselves.
Hi Brittany,
To avoid copying the example, I show it as a one time showing, and I stress that it is guide to give them an idea, however I want them to use their own critical thinking and creativity.

Hi Fidencio,
Clarity is key, and we want our students to be very clear on the assignment as possible. Seeing promotes a better understanding for most students.
Patricia
Hi Terry,
Some students are fine settling, however I have seen some students that will go to great lengths to produce better work.
Patricia
So I understand how it can be helpful, but how do you present it in a way that they don't copy the example? I had one college prof that gave us enough time to get going and if we were completely off track then he would provide examples. Another prof just wanted it to be exactly like the example, and this took away the critical thinking.
I mean if you show A work as an example, that is essentially what they are going to use to copy off of.
Kimberly,
Examples are fantastic!! I believe that they provide hands on training which provides repetition for the students so that they gain an understanding of the material and do not simply memorize.

I want to realize that another student created the example, NOT a professional. I would also like them tho think, "I can do better than that". That response is sadly, rare.
it will help them understand better, and how it should look
I feel that by doing this, it shows students the level of work expected of them. It is also a great way to ensure tey understand the requirements of the project.
I believe that showing examples of the work could very well ease a students apprehension about the course material. It would also give the student some information about the instructor willingness to help them in understanding material.
Showing the students how the equipment operates and how it will be used gets them exited about using the equipment and seeing the results we have discussed in class.
Hi Karl,
I have also seen higher scores on assignments by sharing examples with students. Students know exactly what to do.
Patricia
Should result in motivation and inspiration.
it is essential that you show your students the work of the previous course which helped them to pass the course
It essential to let the students be familiar with
what are expected from them during this course and you may give examples from your previous courses and how the students were able to pass the course successfully.
I always expose my students to real work situations and may apply what they learned in the course, as well as the usefulness and importance of content.
This would give them a visual ideal of what is expected and what would be acceptable. It will allow them to at least be able to break down the information and process what would be expected of them.
Hi Frank,
Examples add the clarity that most students need in order to do well.
Patricia
It is helpful to show students example of student work; I use them as samples some people are visual learners, I use them to show mistakes that might be commonly made, I use them to help my instructions be more clear.
Showing students examples of the work they need to complete in the course would clearly show them what is expected of them in order to successfully complete the course.
